Hey, all! The past week has been pretty hectic, so one of my favorite things to do is to listen to some upbeat songs to get me back in focus, especially during summer. Do you ever listen to music to help change your mood? If you do, here are some of my favorite songs that have debuted within the last year that are perfect to make you feel like summer. Maybe they’re some of your favorites too. Coldplay and Major Lazer make two appearances apiece (I am a huge fan of these artists, and they've both had a great year so far!). Hopefully, I can inspire a little summer happiness with my picks. Enjoy!
P.S. More of my musical suggestions to come :)
- “Something Just Like This”- The Chainsmokers feat. Coldplay
This song makes me feel like a superhero. Probably because Chris Martin talks about superheroes, but The Chainsmokers have been creating some great feel-good music this year, and “Something Just Like This” doesn’t disappoint.
"Run Up"- Major Lazer feat. PARTYNEXTDOOR and Nicki Minaj
Major Lazer works a Caribbean feel on this one along with verses from PARTYNEXTDOOR and Nicki Minaj. There's really nothing more to say, except that you might want to put on your shades while you listen to this.
- “Waterfall-Seeb Remix”- Stargate feat. Seeb, P!nk, and Sia
The beat makes me feel as if I’m relaxing amid a calm storm. However, the fact that P!nk and Sia are on a song together talking about waterfalls is icing on the cake. Stargate and Seeb nailed it with this one.
- “Call on Me- Ryan Riback Remix”- Starley feat. Ryan Riback
The epitome of ‘Shower Karaoke’ with this uplifting beat. With Ryan Riback’s work on this one, Starley’s lyrics are brought to life with her golden vocals. How can you not be happy with this song?
- “Cold Water”- Major Lazer feat. MØ, and Justin Bieber
Major Lazer is one of my favorite artists, so it’s no surprise that this song made the list. As Justin sings about jumping in cold water for love, MØ responds that she ‘won’t let go.’ In typical Major Lazer fashion, the beat and lyrics work in harmony pleasing to the ear.
- “Hymn For The Weekend”- Coldplay feat. Beyoncé
The only song on the list that actually came out a few years ago. The original edit appeared on Coldplay’s 2015 album titled, ‘A Head Full Of Dreams.’ In it, Coldplay takes us on a journey of what love can do to heighten the senses with help from Beyoncé. The vocals and lyrics from Chris Martin (the group’s lead vocalist) and Beyoncé make for chills to the skin in melodic bliss.
