It is always a treat when your parents come to visit you at school but getting to spend time with them isn’t the only perk. These visits usually include a meal or two and of course you want to show them the best that downtown Gainesville has to offer. There are so many options to choose from but I’ve narrowed it down to my four favorites. When you want to treat your parents (and yourself) to a nice dinner out, here are my top picks:
Manuel’s Vintage Room: If you are in the mood for authentic Italian cuisine, then this is hands down the place to go. As soon as you walk through the doors to this cozy, white-tablecloth restaurant your nose is warmly greeted with the aromas of fresh homemade pasta and garlic bread. The atmosphere is quaint and romantic and is perfect for a quiet, leisurely dinner. From the lobster ravioli to the triple chocolate cake, this place is hard to beat.
Dragonfly: This tends to be the go-to “nice” restaurant in Gainesville, with good reason. The Asian-Fusion menu has something for everyone and their specialty sushi rolls always hit the spot. Plus, they are conveniently located right across from The Hyppo so be sure to stop there for a classic Gainesville dessert.
Mark’s Prime Steakhouse: One of the more expensive restaurants in downtown Gainesville, this steakhouse is the perfect place if you and your parents are looking for a fancier meal. Their bread is delicious and sets your expectations high for the rest of meal, but Mark’s definitely delivers. Every item on their menu is mouthwatering and although I did not try any for myself, the table across from us ordered dessert and next time I will definitely be saving room.
Mojo Hogtown Bar-B-Que: Everyone loves some good BBQ, and when my dad and I went here for some we were extremely pleased. This is a casual dining option but still not one to miss. The service was quick and our food was brought out with hardly any wait. The meat was good but the sides were even better. I highly recommend the sweet potato mash, your taste buds will thank you. Be prepared to leave with a food baby because this menu is too good to say no to.
Good food brings people together so when your parents come to town, make sure they have a good visit by bringing them to the good food. A nice dinner out with the family after when you haven’t seen them in a while is always welcome. Plus, knowing it won’t be on your dollar makes it even better but hey, let’s keep that our little secret.
