In the event that you are extremely out of it and are still unaware, it is 2016! What a great year it’s been and continues to be. All of the new movies being released have been phenomenal! And don’t forget about the new music! There are some great tunes on the radio today. It makes you think: ten years ago, what music was I listening to? This thought popped into my head as I was scrolling through the new releases category on Spotify. So, without further ado, here are my top 20 picks from the Top 100 songs of 2006. These are in no particular order (insert Ryan Seacrest voice here).

1. Bad Day- Daniel Powter

This song isn’t one we’ve easily forgotten over the years. It seems to always be popping up. Oh, you had a bad day? Let me sing this 2006 song to you in the worst singing voice you’ve ever heard!

2. So Sick- Ne-Yo

Answering machine? Now you KNOW this song is a decade old. I will never be sick of this 2006 song.

3. Temperature- Sean Paul

I still jam out in my car to this beauty from Seal Paul! It continues to rise the temperature in clubs today as I’m sure it did back in 2006.

4. Over My Head (Cable Car)- The Fray

I have distinct memories of this song playing at the local pool during the summer. The Fray is no stranger to the 2006 Top 100 lists no matter how you rearrange it.

5. Jesus Take the Wheel- Carrie Underwood

Admit it. You probably knew all the words to this Carrie Underwood hit. While I don’t condone driving with no hands, I do recommend to revisit this 2006 gem.

6. Promiscuous- Nelly Furtado ft. Timbaland

A lot of top hits from 2006 discuss being promiscuous, but this one puts it in plain sight for all the boys to see. But really, is chivalry dead?

7. You’re Beautiful- James Blunt

It’s true. You are. But really, you shouldn’t talk about another man’s girl like this, even if she was an angel in 2006.

8. Hips Don’t Lie- Shakira

There’s no way to fight about this. This song really was a hit in 2006. Everyone knew it and I bet it still gets stuck in your head from time to time.

9. Because of You- Kelly Clarkson

I still don’t know who broke Kelly’s heart, but back in the day, this was my go to break up song. Even though I was only nine in 2006... No need to force a smile over that fact!

10. Unwritten- Natasha Bedingfield

I have bounced between wanting to be a teacher and wanting to be an author since I was in second grade. When this song came out a couple years later, I was sure I would be a novelist someday (Newsflash: I’m currently an education major).

11. Ridin’- Chamillionaire ft. Krayzie Bone

We thought we were ALL riding dirty back in 2006. Or was it just me? Either way, they never caught me.

12. Be Without You- Mary J. Blige

Does anyone remember on Sunday nights, there was this station that people would call into and request songs for their loved ones? I’m sure it’s still a thing, but this hit from 2006 tells us that’s an okay thing to do. For real.

13. Me and U- Cassie

Apparently people still answered calls a decade ago. Me and U by Cassie is a great example of music from 2006.

14. Buttons- Pussycat Dolls ft. Snoop Dog

Back in the old days, the Pussycat Dolls made their mark on the world through their music. Even though they wondered, this 2006 hit proves they weren’t too much for us.

15. SOS- Rihanna

SOS came at the beginning of Rihanna’s music career, but this 2006 track is one we won’t soon forget. Rihanna doesn’t need rescuing even today as she continues to rock the music world.

16. I Write Sins Not Tragedies- Panic! At The Disco

Panic! At The Disco popped up with a few hits in 2006. With a large fan base even today, the group has to be glad that we didn’t close the door on them.

17. Move Along- All American Rejects

Just like Panic! At The Disco, the All American Rejects moved along with their music career and have produced numerous top hits over the years, including this one in 2006.

18. What Hurts the Most- Rascal Flatts

Country isn’t absent in the top hits of 2006. I don’t know about you, but this song doesn’t make me want to walk away.

19. Too Little Too Late- JoJo

Jojo hasn’t made appearances in the music world lately, but a decade ago, this girl released Too Little Too Late. I don’t think it’s wrong on any level.

20. Dance, Dance- Fall Out Boy

I have loved Fall Out Boy for as long as I can remember. We won’t forget how they sound, even if it has been ten years.

Take some time to listen to this list of top 2006 hits at work, in the car, at school, or wherever you are. I don’t know about you, but I don’t mind a flashback to the past every now and then. It’s interesting to compare 2006 to 2016. The differences in music, no matter how small, remind us that the world keeps turning and music keeps evolving every day.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
