We all know there are things that
we cannot change about our bodies, no matter how badly you want it
differently. A common example would be your height, which can feel like a
serious impediment to your style. In fashion, it seems as if particular clothing
items will only look good on 5’9," 100 pound models. This is so wrong!
Here are five easy ways to make you look taller.
1. Flared Jeans. Fitted
jeans with a flare at the bottom create the illusion of a longer, thinner leg.
This is also true when the hem hits the top of your shoes. The trick here is to
keep the fit of the jean super-slim through the leg, and to make sure the
waistband hits your natural waist. My favorite flared jeans are 7 For All Mankind.
Wear heels with these jeans and a tucked in blouse to complete the look.
2. Maxi skirts. It is
often said that small women cannot wear floor length skirts and dresses, but
that has been proven wrong. A well cut maxi skirt can actually give you the
appearance of looking taller. Choose a maxi that is a solid color and that skims the length of your body, which will create a long vertical line. Keep the top
portion of your body fitted and tucked in. Do not have pleats or layers to the
skirt! This will only make you look wide, rather than tall.
3. Wear all one color. A
highly effective strategy is to use color to enhance the illusion of height.
One color helps create a vertical line on your body, creating an appearance of
a taller frame. While wearing head-to-toe black is the simplest, eternally chicest option, but saturated hues work well, too. The trick
is to keep each silhouette crisp and tailored for the ultimate tall frame look.
4. High-waisted bottoms. This
has been a trend for a while and, in my opinion, it is never going out of style
because of the way it makes any woman’s body look stunning. These bad boys can
trick your eye into thinking you are taller by elongating your lower body and
making your legs look miles long. Once again, when wearing these make sure to
tuck every top into the high-waisted skirt, shorts or skinny jeans.
5. Vertical stripes. This
might be the oldest trick in the book but, why? Vertical stripes create long
lines, thus making you look long and skinny. Stripes will never be out of style, so finding them will be a breeze.
