Since the advent of Netflix and its popular counterpart, Amazon Instant Video, along with a host of online servers, network television series seem to have surpassed movies as a primary source of visual entertainment especially among teenagers and young adults. The most popular series of which come from Netflix, often viewed under the new sport of “binge-watching." These popular series and their availability continue to enthrall viewers with their captivating acting performances and riveting story-lines. These are the most popular and most anticipated returning drama series of 2015: 


The Walking Dead

Who ever thought zombies could do more than provide casual Halloween decoration? Since its debut in 2010, The Walking Dead has become critically acclaimed and is now one of AMC’s most popular series which an average of 13.3 million viewers in its 4th season. Now in its 5th season, the series is boasting its highest ratings ever and is a strong contender for this year’s Emmy Awards. 

Mad Men

In its final 7 episodes, Mad Men returns this spring to transport its viewers to the posh and glamour of 1960s one last time. Since its debut in 2007 Mad Men has become one of AMC’s highest awarded series. Its writing, acting, directing, and cinematography have been called immaculate to say the least and it boasts four consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards for Best Drama Series for each of its first four seasons. Game of Thrones 

This medieval masterpiece based on the popular series by George R.R. Martin returns in its 5th season this spring. Game of Thrones has received widespread critical acclaim for its acting, writing, and directing and boasts Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Drama series for its first 4 seasons. Already renewed for a sixth season, Game of Thrones has brought HBO unprecedented praise and recognition and is by far one of the most popular series watched among young adults. House of Cards

Debuting its 3rd season on Netflix, this political marvel is sure to be entertainment candy for binge-watchers when it premieres in February. After its first season in 2013, House of Cards became one of the first exclusively Netflix series to earn a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. Kevin Spacey gives a searing portrayal of a ruthless political figure hell bent on winning the Presidency, no matter what the cost may be. True Detective

Returning for its 2nd season, True Detective has effectively changed the paradigm of the detective crime drama. With its shocking fresh acting, writing, and director, creator Nick Pizzolatto has transported the characters portrayed by Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey into a nihilistic, desolate world where evil in people often overpowers the good. With its debut last year, True Detective became the highest rated freshman drama series for HBO.
