This summer, my family and I took a much needed day trip to visit the New Glarus Brewing Company in New Glarus or as many like to describe it, Little Switzerland.
Some may not know this, but Wisconsin is one of the most popular places to find craft breweries in the United States. In 2012, Wisconsin was ranked 11th nationally in craft breweries per capita. While I have only visited two of the many craft breweries in Wisconsin, I felt the need to map out some of the more popular ones that visitors and Wisconsinites alike would find fascinating to visit in their lifetime.
1. Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company, Chippewa Falls, founded in 1867.
I have been to this particular brewery and it was an amazing sight. By far my favorite so far!
2. New Glarus Brewing Company, New Glarus, founded in 1993.
This was such a pristine, clean and fabulous brewery. A rather new build, the brewery's exterior shows a true Switzerland architecture. Not to mention, you can take your beer on the self-guided tour of the brewery.
3. Hinterland Brewery, Green Bay, founded in 2001.
Even though I have lived in this area my whole life, I have yet to go to Hinterland Brewery. But what more could you want? The Green Bay Packers, cheese and beer! Not only do they have the brewery but they also have a restaurant attached to the brewery. They will also have a large presence in the Titletown District that is currently under construction near Lambeau Field in Green Bay.
4. Sprecher Brewery, Glendale, founded in 1985.
Some may recognize the name for the popular cream sodas they also produce. They offer year-round beers, seasonal beers and 14 flavors of soda.
5. Titletown Brewing Company, Green Bay, founded and opened in 1996.
Another top brewery in Green Bay, this brewery is named after what Green Bay is best known for and what it has been called for years: Titletown, USA. Titletown offers tours as well as a full restaurant in which to sit, eat and enjoy Titletown!
There are so many more breweries in Wisconsin, big and small alike. Breweries like Badger State Brewery Company located in Green Bay which was founded in 2013 are in their infancy here in Northeast Wisconsin. There's also Stevens Point Brewery, which has been in business since 1857 and makes a popular beer named Point beer.

Whether big or small, take the time to visit these historic and tasty breweries in the great land of Wisconsin!
