Well, now that Thanksgiving is over, it's time to move on to Christmas. With Christmas comes decorative lights, hot cocoa, fires, cozy blankets, and yes, Christmas movies! One of my favorite things about Christmas is the movies. They get me so festive and bring a smile on my face. I also always end up watching them with my family so it becomes a great time for bonding. With that being said, there are Christmas movies that should just be a crime to not see at least once in your lifetime:
1. Christmas Vacation
This is one of those movies that you can quote every line to all year round. My family and I always have some amazing line from this movie to throw into the everyday conversation. Not only is this movie hilarious but it truly shows how hectic life can get around the holidays. Christmas Vacation is a movie that I always get so excited to watch at Christmas, it's about Clark Griswold, a dad who wants all of his family to visit for Christmas, however, every time he turns around something bad happens. The jokes still cause a chuckle from me even after many years of watching it. It's a classic, it's relatable, and it's way ahead of its time.
2. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
This one's almost a given. The catchy songs, the animation style, and cute little Rudolph automatically makes this movie a classic. It's gotten to the point where I almost can't have a Christmas movie marathon with Rudolph, and as it should be. Rudolph is born with a bright red nose, and everyone makes fun of him, so he runs away and meets up with some friends, and learns he's more important than he believes. Even if this movie is older, it's still entertaining to me even as I grow up. The message has always been a good one for all ages, it's okay to be different.
3. The Polar Express
The Polar Express has been, and perhaps always will be, my favorite Christmas movie. It's beautifully done, it has just the right amount of childlike wonder, the voice actors are brilliant, and that hot chocolate always makes me crave some! When I would watch this movie when I was young, I would always want to ride The Polar Express. Now that I'm older, it takes me back to that time when I was young, and how magical Christmas always seemed to me. This movie follows a young boy who has some skepticism about Christmas, specifically Santa. So, on Christmas Eve, The Polar Express arrives to take him to meet Santa and find his true self.
4. Elf
A movie that's become quite a popular one the past few years, Elf is a film that tends to bring out the joy and innocence in everybody. It follows Buddy the Elf, a human who escaped from the orphanage he was staying at as a baby to the North Pole. As he grows he realizes he is different and leaves the North Pole in search of his dad. This movie has many funny scenes and quotable lines, and brings a ton of Christmas cheer!
5. The Santa Clause
Even though I haven't seen this movie in a few years, I still believe it to be one of my favorites. Scott Calvin, a divorced dad, is watching his son one night when he hears a sound on his roof. When he goes outside to investigate, he finds Santa who falls off of his roof and disappears. Which means Scott is next in line to be Santa Claus, a job he's really not willing to take on. I love this movie because it's very magical and funny. It also has a great line that echoes throughout the movie, "just because you haven't seen it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist."
