Music has always been a huge part of my life. Just like most people I enjoy singing along with the radio. Over the past twenty years I've had the chance to immerse myself with some amazing music. From The Eagles to The Maine, I've found solace in so many songs. Here are only a few of my favorites!
1. "Home" by One Direction
If anyone knows me they know what this song means to me. A lot of fans have said this song is to be about a same sex couple. Personally I've found a safe space within this song. Something about the line, "Could we ever be enough? Baby we could be enough." makes me want to be in love. As someone who is a member of the LGBT community, this song holds a very close spot in my heart.
2. "Heartache Tonight" by The Eagles
This was one of the first songs I remember listening to. I knew all the words to it when I was seven years old. My dad used to play it before I went to a softball game. It used to be his pregame pump up song. The tradition was passed along to me. Every now and again I find myself wishing I appreciated those car rides to the fields a little bit more.
3. "Move" by Little Mix
Little Mix are easily the most under appreciated music act out there right now. Their impressive vocals set them apart from everyone else in the game. Move was the first single off their second studio album, Salute. I love this song because of the sassy lyrics such as "I know that you wanna but you can't cause you gotta stay cool in the corner when the truth is that you wanna move." Obviously it's a song that makes you want to dance and have a great time. This song is on every playlist that I have on my phone. I think that says a lot.
4. "I Know Places" by Taylor Swift
I grew up a Taylor Swift fan. I obviously relate to more than one song but this song reminds me a lot of a relationship I was in. This song is about a relationship that's highly publicized and how people want to get in the way of the romance. I can't say that I relate to that aspect of it. However I relate to wanting to feel like the relationship is stable and safe. When you listen to the song you can definitely tell that it's heavily influenced by Lorde.
5. "My Little Girl" by Tim McGraw
I've always been a daddy's girl. I think that's what I was destined to be. Growing up my dad was my best friend. When I was younger we had a much healthier relationship. He was the one person I felt that was on my side even when I was wrong. My dad let me know that this song was his favorite song. We shared a special bond. This song only enforces the amazing memories we share.
6. "Castaway" by 5 Seconds Of Summer
This song goes so hard. I love the guitars and heavy drumming. Once again I got hooked on the song because of the production. It's a song about having someone walk out of your life. There are a lot of lyrics that remind me of my parents divorce. It's a great song to work out to or scream along to at the concert.
7. "We Didn't Start The Fire" by Billy Joel
Again this song takes me back to my childhood. My dad used to have Billy Joel's Greatest Hits album in the car at all times. He was the first artist that made me want to write and perform. I knew that the song was talking about pop culture issues over the year. WDSTF made me want to learn. I wanted to become educated on what he was singing about. I wish there was a way for him to add on to the song as time goes on. It would be so interesting to see what the verses around the past twenty years would consist of.
8. "All I Wanna Do" by Jordan Fisher
Jordan Fisher is an up and coming musician. He got he start acting. Recently he was in Grease Live. I fell in love with his first single All About Us. All I Want To Do is more of a laid back song. It fits just about any situation regarding your crush. I get a nostalgic vibe when I listen to it. Jordan's impressive vocals only make the song more enjoyable.
9. "Turnin'" by Young Rising Sons
This song was written after Young Rising Sons signed their record deal. The song is about finding what you're looking for in life. You have to work hard towards your goals. That's the only way of getting anywhere. There are times in life when nothing seems worth it. Deep down you know you'll get where you need to be if you keep pushing through. This song is probably the most motivational track I have on my phone. It's a nice reminder that your luck can turn at any second. It's nice to have a friendly reminder from a band I love so much.
10. "Closer" by The Chainsmokers and Halsey.
To close out this list I figured I would pick a song from summer 2016. Everyone seems to be loving this song. It's nice to see The Chainsmokers making good music. It's also nice to see Halsey on a great track like this. Their unique styles really made this song a hit. I love how fun and upbeat the track it. I can't turn on the radio without hearing it. It shot to number one relatively quick. The chorus is one of my favorite elements of this song. I hope that everyone enjoyed their summer and this song could make it even better.
