The month of June is known for a few celebrated events and holidays such as Pride Month and Father's Day. These holidays are fun to celebrate with friends and family, but there are some that you may not have known about. As the month of June comes to an end, I wanted to highlight some of my personal favorite lesser known holidays.
1. National Adopt a Cat Month
If you are looking for a furry friend, June is definitely the month to adopt a cat! National Cat Adoption Month goes on during the entire month of June and shelters around the country encourage people looking for a cat to come down and adopt. Adoption fees are normally affordable and as an added plus you give your new friend a loving and caring home!
2. Applesauce Cake Day
My favorite part about this holiday is the fact that no one really knows where exactly it came from. June 4th is the day to celebrate this holiday and to do so is very simple! On this day just go out and eat a nice piece of applesauce cake. I mean, it has both applesauce and cake-what's not to love!
3. Take Your Dog to Work Day
This holiday should be all year round in my opinion. Take your dog to work day, unfortunately, is only celebrated on June 24th or usually the Friday after Father's Day. When that time grows near, remember to get down and beg to bring Spot into the office.
Remind your boss that it is a holiday.
4. Donald Duck Day
One very special duck gets his own holiday on June 9th! If you are itching to celebrate this timeless cartoon character, go out and watch a few of his cartoons/movies or better yet, go marathon all of them with a bowl of popcorn. You definitely will not regret it.
5. Hug Holiday
Hug Holiday is celebrated on June 29 and wants everyone to give hugs to those who need them the most. Usually people go out and give hugs at senior citizen centers, hospitals, and other similar places. The focus is to spread the warmth, cheer, and love that a hug provides.
Though there are well-known holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas to celebrate, I think it's also fun to remember the smaller holidays as well. If you haven't heard of these holidays, hopefully you will be looking out for them next year. I know I am definitely going to try to convince my boss to let me bring my dog into the office next year.
