3 Reasons I Love Being A Business Major At An Engineering School
UAH

The University of Alabama in Huntsville is known as an engineering and science school, however, there are other colleges including business; arts, humanities, and social sciences; nursing; education; and honors. I'm a marketing major headed into my last year of college (Woo!) and I have had the BEST experiences at UAH. Being a business major at an engineering school has given me more opportunities than I ever imagined and that is just one of the reasons I love being a business major at an engineering school.

1. Being in Huntsville. The Rocket City is the perfect place to go to school.

NASA, Boeing, Raytheon, Lockheed, Northrup Grumman (I could go on) all need business majors. Not to mention all the incredible small businesses in Huntsville that love to hire UAH students. They need someone to balance the books, hire new talent, and inform their customers about their products. There are also so many business competitions in Huntsville as well as at UAH. Downtown Huntsville is perfect (not just for playing Pokemon Go), but for finding networking opportunities, internships, and having fun! The Food Truck Rallies are out of this world and there is always something to do (definitely check out Lowe Mill) if you need to take a break from studying. UAH is growing and so is the city of Huntsville!

2. The amount of opportunities for internships and co-ops UAH finds for business students is insane.

I got my first internship as a freshman working at Downtown Huntsville Inc as a Social Media Intern and I got practical skills that I will use for the rest of my career. There are so many opportunities for work experience, there simply aren't enough business students to fill them. Now I work at ConversantBio, based in the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology (cool fact: Lowe Mill and HudsonAlpha were both founded by Jim Hudson), and I get real-world experience every single hour I work there. Not to mention, it's a really great place to work. Biotech needs business majors and UAH Business works closely with companies like ConversantBio to make sure students are given the best opportunities.

3. I'm a nerd and I love research.

When I was a freshman, I thought research was just for engineering and science. I was so wrong. My sophomore year I had the chance to research with UAH faculty on the College of Business’ inaugural DigitalMarketing Lab. Which essentially means that I got to work with brilliant professors on finding ways to help small businesses have an impact on their digital marketing strategies. Digital marketing includes website ads, social media, and Google Analytics to name a few. Not only did I learn professional marketing skills, I also got to work with my fellow students on a project similar to what I have experienced in the workplace. Research opportunities like that are not uncommon at UAH. Every single college has an opportunity to research and because UAH is so research-rich, you know you are getting a great experience.

Bonus: You might not know this, but UAH Business Advising Office is literally the happiest place on earth. Vickie, George, Jennifer, and Bernice are some of the nicest people I have ever met in my life. They are encouraging, kind, and patient. They are always on top of things and they make it clear that they care about the students. They are always ready to give us a smile and a hug!

There you have it! The top 3 reasons I love being a University of Alabama Huntsville College of Business Administration student. Feel free to chime in if you have any questions or if there's anything I left out!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
