Top 25 Songs From My Childhood CD Albums

As a 19-year-old looking back on my earlier years, I never realized how quality my taste in music was, nor do I understand why my parents willingly burned some of these songs onto a CD for a 9-year-old to listen to. Nonetheless, it was a pleasant surprise to come across the classic CD holder that holds so many treasured songs. I know every one of you had one at some point. It truly marked the beginning of personalized playlists, and I honestly find them much more rewarding than the ones I have published on Spotify.

Here are a few of my favorite selections from the thousands of songs I probably spent hours burning onto disks:

1. "Complicated" by Avril Lavigne

Avril Lavigne was my idol ever since her first album dropped. One of my childhood friend's family was actually from Australia, so I'm pretty certain she got this album before anyone else did, or at least that's what I told myself. Anything to give me a leg up on the latest pop charts.

2. "Jenny from the Block" by Jennifer Lopez

Oh what an experience it was to witness J-Lo in her prime. I will never forget how badly I wanted to be from the streets that J-Lo originated from—actually I still do. Also, if you haven't watched James Corden's carpool video with Jennifer Lopez, do so after reading this article. You will not regret it.

3. "All I Have" by Jennifer Lopez

Oddly enough, this was not one of my favorites at the time, but it definitely is now. Oldie, but a goody.

4. "Rock Your Body" by Justin Timberlake

My love for Justin Timberlake has exponentially increased over the years, but it all began with this song. Does anyone else remember that slip up with he and Janet Jackson singing this at the Super Bowl half-time show? Because I sure do.

5. "Where Is The Love?" by The Black Eyed Peas

Such a poetic track this one is. The lyrics that the Black Eyed Peas came up with never fail to put me in a good mood.

6. "(You Drive Me) Crazy" by Britney Spears

I believe so much in the good spirit of Britney Spears. Every celebrity has their off moments (or years), but hey, she got it together and look at her now. I respect her for every album she released, especially this one.

7. "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera

When I think of this song, I think of the time my dad had this blaring in his car once. Shoutout to him for introducing me to one of my favorite artists.

8. "Breathe" by Faith Hill

This was the first song I knew every word to. Faith Hill and Tim McGraw were the hottest couple of the early 2000s hands down. My appreciation for this song is infinite.

9. "Soak Up The Sun" by Sheryl Crow

Summer is here! So, I expect this to be at the top of everyone's playlist. Sheryl never disappoints.

10. "I Put Your Picture Away" by Kid Rock ft. Sheryl Crow

Definitely on the more depressing side of these songs, but very relatable. I wasn't even aware this was Kid Rock until today. Apparently I was into the Country-Rock genre, but I'm really not surprised because look at diversity in the rest of the songs I have listed.

11. "Follow Me" by Uncle Kracker

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like Uncle Kracker was a one-hit-wonder type of artist? I have no recollection of any other song other than this one. Still a great hit, obviously

12. "Still Fly" by Big Tymers

Not sure if it was by my father's influence or not, but I definitely remember jamming to this at every event my family hosted on New years.

13. "In Da Club" by 50 Cent

The cover of this album still scares me to this day, but I bet 50 Cent is a sweet guy despite his facial expression. He's go to be, he made some quality music. If I haven't already requested this to a DJ, then I will make it a point to do so.

14. "Let It Burn" by Usher

The things I would do to attend an Usher concert featuring only his 2004 album: "Confessions." Don't get me wrong, his newer music is great, but nothing beats this album. Hands down, I would spend my life savings to have this happen.

15. "No Scrubs" by TLC

This is still the best girl power song ever released. TLC did us all a favor by releasing this gem to the world.

16. The Lizzie McGuire Theme Song: "We'll Figure It Out" by Angie Jaree

*Cue Disney Channel narrating and announcing the newest episode of "Lizzie McGuire" airing next Friday* You have no idea how nostalgic this recording that my mom managed to acquire is. Our future generations are surely going to decline due to their lack of quality television.

17. "Sneaker Night" by Vanessa Hudgens

I know for a fact that I asked for a pair of Rhino's to match the ones that Vanessa was wearing in her music video. She was and still is everything I want to be. The girl could be wearing a trash bag and pull it off. Somehow, she rocks every look.

18. "Cinderella" by The Cheetah Girls

I am not embarrassed at all that I still remember every dance I made to The Cheetah Girls' albums. The struggle was so real in the constant battle that my friends and I had determining who would get to be which Cheetah Girl. I'm pretty sure that we even made up extra Cheetah Girl character's because four just was not cutting it.

19. "Us Against The World" by Play

You might not think you know this song, but you do. Not really sure where it came from, I spent quite some time Googling the artist. Apparently it's by a teen girl band, surely this was featured on Disney Channel at some point between and episode of "That's So Raven" and "Phil of the Future "

20. "Good Morning Beautiful" by Steve Holy

Apparently, many country artists have done a rendition of this song. All in all I give it a 10/10, most likely because my mother still wakes me up singing the chorus to it.

21. "L-O-V-E" by Nat King Cole

Surely this is included due to it's infamous appearance on "The Parent Trap." Once a classic, always a classic. No doubt this will be playing at my wedding.

22. "Live Like You Were Dying" by Tim McGraw

I probably only memorized this one because I spent hours listening to it on repeat trying to master the long note: "DYYYY.....ing", towards the end of the song. Still have yet to conquer it.

23. "London Bridge" by Fergie

The music video to this song is all I thought about when I saw the actual London Bridge at age 13. Fergie was such an icon, and still is. Mainly because she has the pleasure of getting to wake up to Josh Duhamel every day of her life.

24. "Beautiful Soul" by Jesse McCartney

The absolute greatest teen heart throb—in line after Aaron Carter of course. His appearance on "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" probably made my life. I'm sure everyone has had a crush on Jesse McCartney at some point, and blondes aren't even my type.

25. "Breaking Free" by Troy and Gabriella

If you did not envy Vanessa Hudgens for getting to live your ultimate dream (i.e. getting to film with and actually date Zac Efron), then you did not really appreciate the joy that was "High School Musical." If you were a '90s baby and watched the premiere of this with all of your friends, then God truly blessed you.

I won't lie to you, my CD album is most definitely staying in my glove compartment, so that I may have access to every one of these tunes and plenty more. Not sure if I was approaching an early life crisis, but the array of genres and artists surely have me assuming so. God bless my parents for allowing my early 2000s colors to truly shine in these albums, and for helping me in the creation of the numerous albums I now cherish more than ever.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
