2015 was quite the year. A new pop culture phenomenon seemed to be occurring every day. In the 365 days the year had to offer, we witnessed musical genius, comedic gold, and big steps for social justice. This year was amazing in every way. As we approach 2016, here is a recap of the top 10 pop culture moments of 2015. Let's hope the year to come is just as entertaining!
1. The comeback of Adele
It finally happened. Adele released “25”, what she calls a make up album, that brought tears and thoughts of the one that got away to all listeners. Not only was the album a success, selling more copies in 96 hours than Taylor Swifts 1989 did the entire year, but the tour even more so. I’m talking about the breaking the Internet. With several million people trying to get tickets and only a limited number of shows, you are seriously privileged to get a ticket. And if anyone has an extra, let me know.
2. From Bruce to Caitlyn
One of the more surprising stories of this year was the transition of Bruce Jenner to Caitlyn Jenner and all of us being invited along on that journey. She’s brave to make the transition in the first place, but to actually make it her purpose to publicize her story in hopes of educating others, that’s important. She’s changing many lives by opening up the transgender conversation, and her courage did not go unnoticed.
3. Kanye 2020
Let’s not forget that this year Kanye West got up on stage and announced his plan to run for president in 2020. Yes, he said, “Ya’ll might be thinking right now, ’Did he smoke something before he came out here?’ The answer is yes, I rolled up a little something. I knocked the edge off!” But, he also never denied it after becoming 100% coherent again. We can only hope his thought remains four years from now because really, think about it…
4. Justin Bieber baring it all
First, he Instagrammed a photo of his bare cheeks, then, the paps caught him completely nude on a tropical vacation. We’re talking full frontal, people. He seems to be very comfortable with his body, as he should be. I just have a hunch flashing that oh so lucky paparazzi may not have been a total accident.
5. Hotline Bling. That’s all.
Drake. The lyrics. The dancing.
6. Marriage for all!
One of my favorite things to happen this year was legalizing gay marriage in all fifty states. There’s no denying the beauty and pure awesomeness of everyone being able to love who they love for evermore. My heart is happy.
7. Amy Schumer killin’ it
My favorite quote of 2015, “I’m probably, like, 160 pounds right now and I can catch a d*ck whenever I want. Like, that’s the truth. It’s not a problem,” by Amy herself. Not only does she empower women to embrace the body they have, she promotes equal pay between race and gender, feminism and is above all hilarious while remaining humble. Her badass attitude finally getting the attention it was meant to have was one of my favorite things to see this year.
8. Epic surprise guest at every. Taylor. Swift. Show.
Pitbull, Dwayne Wade, Miranda Lambert, Keith Urban, Steven Tyler, Wiz Khalifa, Ellen, Justin Timberlake, they all were up on stage with T Swift at one point during her tour, and that’s not even half of them. This unprecedented act left concertgoers, even Instagram followers, on the edge. Meanwhile, she just added to her already giant circle of friends.
9. Combining Rihanna, Kanye and Paul for FourFiveSeconds.
This was another one of those songs that came out of nowhere and left the world with jaws to the floor. The combination of artists, minimal instruments, and simplistic video contributed to the array of very unique music this year. This is the song we’ll be shouting, “Hey kids!! This is Kanye West, Rihanna, and.." thirty years from now and they’ll cut us off and say it’s crap. We’ll keep singing because we understand the worth of FourFiveSeconds. Simply a classic.
10. Jennifer Aniston FINALLY getting hitched
He put a ring on it, she got a white gown and Jen Aniston became Mrs. Justin Theroux. While many people out there were upset that she’s officially off the market and they missed their shot at winning her over, the rest of us were ecstatic. I don’t know the woman personally but I feel like I do, and I think she deserves a great love and happily ever after, so it made me happy that she finally got it. You go, Jen.
