2020's Most Anticipated Movies: My Top 10 from ASU

This year I'm thankful to see less reboots and sequels releasing and more original storytelling.

2020's Most Anticipated Movies: My Top 10 from ASU

In 2020 there are a spoil of movies coming to theaters, and I've got my eyes on these 10 which I hope won't disappoint. All release dates gathered from IMDb.

The Lodge, Releases February 7

With a tone that is reminiscent of "It Come at Night," this family thriller knows how to effectively sell itself in a trailer, and get the hairs raised for what's to come. The best thing about it is the sense of terror lurking about the location and not knowing a single thing about where it's coming from, that is until we watch the movie!

A Quiet Place Part II, Releases March 20

Hard to imagine John Krasinski, aka the charming Jim Halpert from "The Office," producing so dark of a movie! In a world where creatures have infested the planet by attacking and killing anything that makes sound, the 2018 horror "A Quiet Place" was an amazing movie experience and the sequel is sure to be no different. I remember being scared my popcorn chewing would ruin the original because of how deep into the world, and silence, we all fell into. Can't wait to go back.

No Time to Die, Expected April 10

Hard to dislike spy flicks especially when they're starring Daniel Craig! These movies can be just the right amount of over the top action and creative espionage which I vicariously live my CIA life through. Releasing four months from now, there's plenty of time to check out the four previous Craig installments of the Bond series.

Antlers, Expected April 17

Based on a short story "The Quiet Boy" which I am avoiding out of respect to my eventual spoiler-free viewing, this movie has Oscar award-winning Guillermo del Toro behind it as a producer and I will gladly support him. With a name like "Antlers," and from what the trailer shows, I hope this ends up being the creature feature that re popularizes the sub-genre.

Antebellum, Expected April 24

Something deeper is going on here that makes this psychological thriller another must-see. I love to see Janelle Monáe increase her acting range with horror after films like "Hidden Figures" and "Moonlight." The color too, if anything like here in the trailer, presents a visually appealing film I would want to enjoy in theaters and not at home.

Black Widow, Expected May 1

The fact that there will be multiple widows in this movie, Red Guardian, Rachel Weisz, and Taskmaster all excite me for the next prequel Marvel installment. Some say Black Widow has a thing for deploying from extreme heights and even if it's hilarious it hurts to agree. If you know you know.

Soul, Expected June 19

A Pixar film never fails to get my waterworks flowing given the heartwarming stories and characters that are involved in nearly every picture. The concept of these little shiny versions of ourselves going on their own journey, paired with a new soundtrack to obsess over, are enough for me to tag along for the ride.

In the Heights, Expected June 26

Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical prowess has done it again! Based on Miranda's Tony Award-winning production with the same name, "In The Heights" tells the story of how a lottery drawing, friends returning home, and life itself affects the lives of a largely Hispanic community living day by day in Washington heights. This movie is sure to pull some raw emotion out of me since it's directed by "Crazy Rich Asians" director Jon M Chu.

Tenet, Expected July 17

Christopher Nolan.

Eternals,  Expected November 6

I love and hate to say it, but I have no clue what this movie will be about. Only that it is a star-filled cast who won't disappoint on their performances. As die-hard MCU fan, how could I not freak out over a new team being introduced? I hope to be one of the first to see this when it finally comes around!

That's my list! Looks like midway through the year I'll have checked off all but Marvel's "Eternals" and I say that excitedly. Not being the most patient when it comes to movies, I can not wait for the beginning of the new decade to provide so much material to anticipate, watch, watch again, and review right from the start. If you're following the same movies I am, or absolutely dreading the list I've made, follow my twitter @JSYKnowa and let's talk about it!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
