Toddlers vs. Drunk People

Why toddlers are like mini drunk people, without the alcohol.

So this past weekend, I spent the entire weekend with my sister, who happens to be a very active 3 year old (also a tad cranky). While watching her fumble around all weekend, I started thinking to myself toddlers are just mini drunk people. But really think about it! Have you ever been at a party and witnessed that one drunk person (or multiple) who just can't seem to function properly? In addition to that, ever tried to watch a toddler function properly? It almost doesn't happen. Toddlers (and drunk people) are pretty hysterical to watch. Whether it's bumping into walls or crying uncontrollably, toddlers and drunk people have a lot in common (surprisingly!). So if you haven't witnessed it for yourself (or maybe you have) read on and look at 5 reasons why toddlers are just like mini drunk people!

1. Random Crying

Ever seen a drunk person tear up for no reason? Nothing was said to upset the person, but in that moment after someone has had one too many, something struck them so deeply that they felt the need to cry about it. Well, toddlers do that too. Gave them water instead of apple juice? Automatic tears. Answered your phone after they said not to? Insert tears here.

2. Uncontrollable Laughter

Ever had one too many drinks and suddenly the dishes sitting in the sink are the funniest things at the party? Yeah, toddlers work that way too. If you say no, suddenly it's the funniest word they've ever heard in their young existence. While you're cleaning up their mess, they stand there in uncontrollable hysterics, watching the madness unfold.

3. They get hurt and walk it off.

There are two types of people who have the most resilience when it comes to getting hurt. Drunk people and toddlers. Countless times I've seen people bump into walls, tables, chairs, flat out fall on their faces, and just get right up and keep going about their way. They may even laugh. The same can be said about toddlers. Misjudge the corner and run right into it? Grab your sippy cup and walk it off, kid. Seriously, where does this resilience come from?

4. Anger

If you've ever been around an angry drunk, you know that it does not take long for an angry drinker to find something to throw a tantrum about. The same goes for toddlers. They want to wear rain boots when it's sunny out and you say no? Forget about it, you now have a red faced, angry tantrum throwing child on your hands. Tell an angry drunk their shoe is untied and they may very well have the same reaction.

5. Chocolate Milk vs. Alcohol

I am convinced that chocolate milk to a toddler is synonymous with alcohol to an adult. Chocolate milk makes a toddler so happy that you can convince them to do just about anything with the promise of chocolate milk. "Clean up your toys and I'll make you chocolate milk". It works. Want a stressed out college student who can drink to come over and help you with something. "Hey, I need help moving into my dorm, free beer." Guarantee you'll have some more than willing volunteers.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
