"Being you" is a term I think many girls around their teen years up until the end of college still struggle with. Especially with a group of girls talking to their best friends saying, Well, maybe if I dyed my hair or worked out more he will notice me. When did physical appearance become the main priority in our culture today?
To the girls who think trying to get a guy's attention by changing your hair or the way you look: don't. When you meet the right person for you, all of the little imperfections you feel are so big and spending countless hours thinking of what to say if he comes up and talks to you all goes out the window. As girls, we feel the need to have it together 24/7 and make sure that not only do we have the right shoes on but that he will notice me. We try to fit in the best way we can with his friends, make up silly jokes and learn everything possible about him because he is just so perfect. But have you ever thought that you are perfect too? That someone should think about you the way you think about him? That someone should spend the time getting to know how awesome you are? We spend so much time focusing and channeling all of our energy into one person that we never stop and think about what we want as an individual. So what if he doesn't reply to your text in a day or forget you two had plans because he would rather hang out with his buddies than consider your feelings first? Speaking of considering feelings, she puts you first above all but even still that goes unnoticed. As girls, we start to feel that we are doing something wrong or maybe we should change something, but that is not the case.
So to the girl's reading this article: being you is enough, your silly jokes that you make up matter, and focusing on yourself and what you want is OK. Don't ever let some guy try and tell you who you are and that it's OK if he forgets the plans you two made. What you do and who you are is enough, and when you know that no one can take that away from you.
