To The Girl Who Doesn't Think She is Good Enough,
We see you. In fact, I am you. I wake up every morning trying to convince myself that the girl looking back at me in the mirror is enough. That she is pretty enough, skinny enough, smart enough for the people that are in her life. Some days are better than others and other days you won't feel like getting out of bed. It seems to be a daily struggle and no matter how much you work on it, its like taking two steps forward and three steps back. You walk through life wondering if everyone likes you and if you are good enough to keep the attention of the people around you.
I am you. I know that when your scrolling through social media that you look at other girls pages wondering how they do it, how they get so perfect: perfect body, skin, hair, relationship. Then you take a step back and you look at yourself and you realize that you are not even close to her. That your skin isn't clear. That you gained 20 pounds since high school. That you didn't get that good of a score on the test or in that class. That your personality isn't confident and naturally grabs people's attention. You are just you.
Being you is enough. You are enough. What you see is the highlight of a person. No one posts the negative and the ugly on their social media. What you see has been modified with Instagram filters, smiles and shallow happiness. Do not compare yourself to someone else's highlight reel. Being yourself is enough. Because although you might not be skinny like her, your healthy. And although you might not feel as pretty as her, your soul is prettier. You might not feel as smart as her but your ability to do something else is stronger and your passion is greater.
Don't let the negative thoughts run your life because they will consume you. You are enough. You might not be what you want to be, but you are you. And you are enough. That girl that you aspire to be like has her own flaws and her own fears. She isn't as perfect as you think she is. She's just as perfect as she wants people to see.
I wish I could tell you that one day you will wake up and you will feel good enough, but if I said that I would be lying. If I said it would be easy, I would be lying. It will be a daily struggle and some days will be easier than others. But you are enough and you will be enough to the people who truly love and care about you. Your flaws are what makes you who you are. You are perfect flaws and all. You are yourself. She is herself. And that is okay.
Love,
A Girl Who Doesn't Think She Is Good Enough
