It can start with something as simple as a text message. This message, to you, means a lot because you don't reach out that much. You wait and wait until you see that they have read it. When they finally read what you have written… they don't respond. I know that feeling in your stomach… you know the one that almost physically hurts. You put yourself out there… all the way, and they still did not take the time to respond.
It can start with a simple encounter… maybe a lunch date or a visit at someone's house. You sit in front of someone you love, and all they seem to talk about is them. You smile and nod, but you're hurt. You begin to think… Do they still care? You would never tell them the truth. The truth is something that absolutely terrifies you.
It can start with the person who has your heart. If we are being honest, you know this is the love that got away. You tell them everything that has gone on since you last spoke. You take every word they say, soak it in, and let your response explain your emotions. Of course, they nod, smile, and act like they care. In reality, they have completely moved on. It does not matter if they want to be your friend or not. You can honestly, brutally, unmistakably tell they do not care.
I am here to tell you… Burn those bridges.
I know you love them, I really do, but this is something you cannot control. You can control to let go and find peace. Letting go of something you love is the hardest thing EVER. You began to believe these people will change and see how much you are worth. You will realize, you are worth more than that.
You are worth more than a text message, you are worth more than an encounter, and you are worth more than a boy who doesn't love you back. Someday, maybe years from now, you will look in the mirror. It may be a glance, just a second, and you will see… You. The person you have been searching for.
