We’ve all heard it. We’ve all felt it. We’ve all seen it.
“2020 is gonna be YOUR year.”
“I can’t believe you graduate this year!”
”You’re almost there.”
then suddenly...it all means nothing.
Walking across that stage and looking out into the crowd at your classmates, is every high school seniors dream. Whether you’ve loved high school, liked high school, or even hated every moment of high school, we can all agree on one thing...this sucks.
It sucks knowing that we may have already had our “last day of school.”
It sucks knowing that we may never see some of our friends again.
It sucks knowing that we might not get to take cute pictures with our friends at senior prom.
It sucks knowing that we may not ever get to say goodbye to that one teacher that loved us like we were their own.
It sucks knowing that we might not get that 10 seconds of recognition on stage as our family screams from the stands.
It sucks knowing that we might not get that “last hoorah” before we become adults.
It sucks knowing that one day we’ll hear a story about someone we went to high school with and how they’ve left this world...and we didn’t even get that one last hug.
But the “suckiest” part of it all, we may have lost every opportunity for those memories.
No dancing like an idiot with our friends at prom. No more screaming and acting stupid at pep rally’s. No more “going to the bathroom”, just to run down the hallways trying to see who can sprint the fastest. No more complaining about those God awful school lunches. No more “best naps of your life.” No more having the rare days that your teacher says “forget it”, and throws in a movie.
No more...and yeah, that sucks.
To the ones who think we’re being “selfish”...
Our childhood may be gone, our teenage years down the drain. All of the rules we’ve followed, tests we’ve stayed up studying for, running into school so we’re not late...our REALITY and what we’ve spent 12 YEARS working for might very well be gone...
So please, be patient with us. We’re trying to find some normalcy in this just like everyone else.
to the class of 2020,
We have cried together, laughed together, sang together, acted like idiots together, and even lost a few on the way...but we made it. With or without all of those “senior year things”, we did it when nobody thought we could. If we can make it through High School, we can make it through this.
Until we meet again...
A 2020 Graduate<3
