To People Who Keep Saying I Don't Need Make Up

I would just like to address the people who keep letting me know that "you don't need make-up" and those who say "you shouldn't be ashamed of how you look." Here is the shocking truth: I know, and I am not.

I know you think that I wear make up because I am insecure or want to look like the "other girls." So please listen to what I have to say, because you cannot seem to understand the truth of why I use make up.

We live in a world where society's ideas of beauty are not usually ideal for health and are often unattainable for the average person. I know this, and have come to terms with this fact. It does not bother me that I don't have perfect complexion or large eyes. However, It bothers me that you think I do!

It was not until I started wearing make up everyday that I noticed people commenting on my lack of self esteem and my body image issues that "I seemed to have." They first came from my brother no less! A male in my life I am quite close to, someone I would speak to if I did have such issues but never had a need to. So I asked why he would think those things, and the answer I got was because I started to wear make up everyday. Ever sense that day he keeps letting me know that I should stop wearing make up because "You are already beautiful, you don't need it."

While this is at first very flattering, it drives one a bit insane after the 10th time you have heard this argument while putting on make up. So I would like to set the record straight for those you have noticed my newfound daily make up routine.

I wear make up because it is professional. I would have never been hired if I showed up to a professional interview in jeans and a tank-top, OR without a little make up. The world I live in requires me to wear make up to events such as work to appear professional; to appear like I care about my impression and hygiene. While there are many brave men and women questioning the role of make up in everyday life, I am at a point where I have to go with the flow. If I need to where make up to be a good candidate for the job, I will.

I wear make up because I do care what I look like, not because I have issues with what I look like without it! I know it is a hard concept, but having to wear make up as a professional also apply to regular life. Society, even just small parts notice the pride I take in my appearance when I choose to dress up, and put make up on. Depending on how much and what kind of make up I am wearing, I am able to communicate how much I value myself image (not devalue) and the event, place, or people I am with by adding the right make up.

I wear make up because it is just plain fun. Especially to someone who loves art! I am by no means a great artist, but I do love drawing and painting and I can do it on my face! Really when you think about it, make up is one of the most creative and wonderful ways to express one's self. I can go from face painting, to a natural make up style, to cosplaying! All styles show what I like, and how I want to be seen at that moment.

So, thank you for your kind words, but please realize there is more than meets the eye to the reason why I wear make up.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
