To Graduate...Or Not To Graduate

Well... This is it, you guys! It is officially the last semester of my undergrad degree! Excited Right?

Sort of...

We all want the American Dream! You know...THAT dream. Where, regardless of where you're from or how you were brought up, you can have your own success story in a society where everyone succeeds!

We just want to make our family proud and stunt on those who said we couldn't do it! I want to show everyone that a black girl can make it around here!

One time for my Black Queens *fist pump*

Now, when senior year comes around, we all panic. And we all know WHY we panic. We're not ready to grow up! We're not ready to face the real world and get a career and be on our own. It's going to be hard!

Unless you're rich... or mommy daddy is going to help start your own business.

But... If you're AVERAGE like me, we have to work for what we get so... yeah! Let us get back to it!

Thinking about growing up in this society (and Trump!), we get worried. What worries us the most is not knowing what is next. Not knowing if we're going to get that job we want or if we are going to live in the area we want is STRESSFUL.

Times like this, we all just need words of encouragement. We need somebody to tell us we're going to be fine. For some, there are expectations to be met. You have to look like this and dress like this if you want to work for daddy's company.

Or... you can be like ME and as long as you make it in life, the whole world loves you! I'll be the first in my family to have a degree so I already passed the bar (yay!!).

But here are few personal tips to get you through your last semester:

1. RELAX.

If you don't calm down, you are going to stress yourself out even more and stress is not good for the soul or body. So just stay calm, take a bike ride, a walk in the park, whatever you need to do to keep sane!

3. TAKE RISKS.

As a recent grad or a current senior, we don't want to put ourselves to the test. Take a risk. Be spontaneous. You might not get what you want right away but if you keep grinding, the hard work will pay off.

It is okay to be scared. The only way to overcome this fear is to just do it! Do your best, apply yourself, work hard, and succeed like no other. We got this! Hashtag #SeniorSZN

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
