When you turn on the television what do you see?
Odds are you're seeing a pretty blonde girl in some sitcom fawning over some boy or maybe you're watching the news and seeing a person of power talking about how easy women are to manipulate.
When you pick up a magazine do you see yourself? Probably not. You're probably seeing an overly photoshopped, size zero model.
Everywhere you look you see the expectations and stereotypes of women. You rarely get to see an average woman doing average things. Thus, you feel like you have to fit this image you're seeing. You grow to accept that your main goal in life is to find love. If you don't fit the stereotype, you're wrong and beaten down for it and I'm tired of it.
I'm tired of feeling threatened by other girls around my age. I'm tired of feeling like I'm worthless because a boy won't give me the time of day. I'm tired of feeling bad about myself because I'm not a size zero. I'm tired of how we treat girls and women in our society.
It is about to be 2017, so why are we still treating women like objects of lust rather than human beings? Why are we telling our daughters that instead of praising our fellow women for their achievements, we should feel threatened by them?
I want girls everywhere to know that it is okay to not be a "girl", it's okay to be an actual human being. You are not worth less than your male counterparts. You were not born to please men in any way - you were born to do something great.
You may be a girl, but that does not mean you are worth less than your male counterpart.
You do not have to be a size zero, but if you are, that's okay.
You do not need to wear makeup, but if you do, that's fine.
It's okay to not want to get married. If you do want that though, great.
You do not need a man to tell you that you are wanted, but if you do want to hear that, then cool.
I don't care what you want to do, and you shouldn't care what other girls want to do. You should support your fellow women and raise them up. We already have to compete to be equal to men, we shouldn't compete with other girls. Don't let society force us into a fight that has no winner.
Be strong, be confident and be the person you want to be, not the person you're told you need to be.
