Flashing lights, long lines, no parking: the list goes on and on when you spend the day in the city going shopping. There are so many decisions to make and places to go. In order to avoid the hustle and bustle, follow these tips to ensure a fantastic day shopping in any large city.
1. Take the train or get dropped off
Parking spots can be hard to find in such a large city. Look for parking garages labeled "self park" to avoid paying an excessive amount for a two-hour parking spot. Parking apps are also helpful, telling you where spots are available and how much they are. Or even better, avoid the hassle and leave your car at home—you will be walking from store to store, anyway.

2. Wear a cross body bag or one that zippers
Large cities mean large amounts of people which means large numbers of pickpockets. Bring a bag that you can see in front of you or wear a backpack with a lock.

3. Look online for flash sales
Hitting the right stores with deals will not only help your bank account, but also leave you extremely satisfied at the end of the day. Look online to see when your favorite stores are having sales and make sure to hit those up while you are in the city.
4. Eat a big breakfast
No one can shop on an empty stomach. Make sure to bring a snack or have lunch reservations in order to keep fueled throughout the day. All the walking will leave you craving a big lunch.
5. Bring a phone charger
Using different apps and taking pictures drains your battery, especially in a big city where everyone is using their phones. Carry around an external charger or use a charging dock that can be find in some stores or restaurants.
6. Wear comfortable shoes
You hear this over and over again when you shop but you don't want to end up with blisters the next day. Put on your most comfortable shoes because you never know how many blocks you really will be walking.
7. Wear warm clothes
Especially shopping during the holidays, or even after, dress warm to avoid freezing temperatures. Layers on layers is key. And don't forget your hat and gloves!

8. Hit large stores first
Going to stores such as Forever 21, H&M, and Zara first will avoid the afternoon rush of people. Also, when you go early, the clothes are still nicely folded and easier to go through.
9. Talk to locals
If you aren't from the area, ask locals where the best areas to shop are. See if there are any small stores that aren't chains and make sure to stop in those to find some unique pieces.
10. Don't miss department stores
Though you may have these stores at a mall near you, it doesn't mean that they carry the same things. Hit Nordstrom Rack and T.J. Maxx and hope to find some things you've never seen before.
Before hitting big cities, make sure to do your research. Find out what stores are having sales, when the sales are, what the weather is going to be like, where you can find the closest parking, and much more. The more work you do ahead of time, the more time you can spend buying things.
