Summer is the time for a variety of different conventions. Whether you are headed to Comic-Con in San Diego or VidCon in Anaheim here are some of my tips to help you get through the convention in one piece.
1. Bring a bag/backpack.
You are at the convention center for on average anywhere between eight to 12 hours and the reality is you are going to need a bag to hold everything you will need for the day. On top of all of the free things that vendors hand out, you're going to need to pack some of the necessities. These things can include snacks, water, a sweatshirt, ID, various portable chargers, and anything else you think you might need for the weekend.
2. Bring food from home.
Not only is this one just good for your body but food at these types of events can get really expensive. Bring various snacks that you can eat between meals and when you have some downtime so you can refuel. Also bring a water bottle, preferably one that is refillable, so that you can stay hydrated
3. Expect a crowd.
I know this seems obvious but you may need to mentally prepare yourself to feel crowded because there more than likely will be a lot of people. The sooner you accept it the more you can focus your energy on things that matter.
4. Have a game plan.
There will be times to wonder around aimlessly navigating through the crowds but, have an idea of which panels you want to see on whatever day they are on. Knowing what's going on can also help you avoid spots where there will be masses of people.
5. Bring Cash.
You never know which vendors or food trucks will and wont take your cards. Cash is your best option to ensure that you can get what you want inside the convention.
6. Make friends.
Be social! Everyone there is there to have a good time. Take the opportunity to mingle. You never know who you might meet.
7. Expect the unexpected.
Panels, meet-ups, and shows can change at the drop of a hat. You never know what can happen. Make sure you have the convention twitter notifications on and are always on the lookout for updates
8. Wear comfortable clothes.
The truth is you may be on the move all day going from panel to panel, walking around the convention center or expo halls, running from place to place. You are going to want to be comfortable for the long hours you spent at the event.
9. Take lots of pictures.
The convention goes by so fast and you will more than likely want to relive it. So take pictures, vlog your day, or live-tweet the event for the memories.
10. Enjoy the time you are there!
You've been planning this week for months on end from outfits to the panels you’re attending. The convention is supposes to be a fun time for you. Don’t stress over the small things and really enjoy the moment.
No go forth and enjoy your convention!
