25 Pieces Of Advice That Every Stressed-Out Incoming Freshman Needs To Hear ASAP

The beginning of the semester is only a few short weeks away and if this is your first year, you might be getting anxious or nervous to leave home and start your life in a completely new environment. Advice from upperclassman can be a lifesaver, at least it was for me during my first week of school. I'm part of a Facebook page and many of the members will be incoming freshmen and were asking advice on everything from keeping in touch with family and if you should go to class. A group of upperclassmen girls compiled a list that I thought really covered everything you might be nervous about!! Take a deep breath, you got this.

1. Go to class—you're paying a lot of money for it

2. Always keep a snack with you

3. Buy food to keep in your room — dining hall food can get old

4. Always keep a charger and headphones on you

5. Start your homework as soon as you're assigned it and study for all your tests — you get out what you put in

6. Go over your syllabi and write down important dates (tests, paper/project due dates, etc.)

7.Call your mom, dad, siblings, grandparents, etc.

8. Take a mental health day every once in awhile

9. Dedicate some time to yourself each day (go for a walk, go to the gym, take a nap etc.)

10. Keep up with your friends back home — they'll appreciate it

11. Don't think you're too cool for people

12. Be open to new things/ideas — say yes to things you wouldn't normally do

13. Don't get wasted all the time — it's not cute

14. Don't go to class drunk/high — not worth it

15. Don't stay up all night studying — it won't help. If you know it you know it, and if you don't you don't. Same with homework/projects. If it's not done by midnight and not due the next day, go to bed!!!!

16. No one actually knows what they're doing — everyone is figuring it out as they go

17. Don't judge people — get to know them first

18. You don't have to go out every weekend

19. Be nice to everyone — you might meet some cool people that you wouldn't normally hang out with

20. No one actually cares what you're doing

21. Learn to say no, and make sure you have your priorities in check

22. Handwritten letters to family/friends mean a lot

23. Don't be afraid to ask for help. If you're going through something it's okay to talk to someone. Professors will understand if you need more time with assignments and will be helpful if you go talk to them

24. Go to office hours and talk to your professors and advisors

25. Have fun and enjoy the process. You're in college, you're supposed to have fun!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Being Invisible The Best Super Power

The best superpower ever? Being invisible of course. Imagine just being able to go from seen to unseen on a dime. Who wouldn't want to have the opportunity to be invisible? Superman and Batman have nothing on being invisible with their superhero abilities. Here are some things that you could do while being invisible, because being invisible can benefit your social life too.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
