As I sit here and write this, I am thinking about all of the things I have to do today so that I can do everything I need to do for tomorrow so then the day after tomorrow I can do the things I have to do. My to do list is constantly running through my mind. I am reminding myself every second and every minute that I need to be doing something so I can get it all done. I guess I did it to myself though. I am involved in a lot of different things at school. I enjoy being busy and I enjoy being with people all of the time. Every day there is something new for me to do and more people to meet and I love that, but I do get tired and that is okay.
Being in college is a huge test of time management. Class, organizations, friends, significant others, family, everything is pulling you in a different direction. Trust me I have been there, I am there right now. It gets really overwhelming and hard to handle. I have learned a new trick to deal with everything and I am going to share it right now.
Take time for yourself. I know this is extremely hard. You want to be that person everyone can go to and the person that takes care of the world. Let me tell you. I have tried, you cannot take care of the world without taking care of yourself. Get out your planner and schedule it in if you have to. It can be ten minutes, a whole hour, or even an entire day. You need it, your body needs it. Being a busy student gets exhausting and your body can only take so much of it.
You need time to relax, don’t feel guilty about it. Everyone needs it. Do something that you enjoy and spend a lot of time doing it. It changes the whole perspective of things. No one will be upset with you for taking the time that you need. I was afraid of this. I didn’t want to disappoint anyone so I just kept going, but then my body got tired and it affected my personality and how well I was performing my job as a friend, employee, student and partner. Things got worse before they got better. I had to learn the hard way how important it is to put yourself above your schedule. Don’t get overwhelmed by life. Life is going to get crazy, but trust me. You can be the person that takes care of the world.
