The first clock was built in 1500 BC. The sun dial provided the Egyptians the ability to tell what time of day it was by using the shadow that the sun made to figure it out. Today, we have clocks everywhere ticking and turning, telling us where to go. They are on our phones and in our cars. They are everywhere. They demand to be obeyed with each incessant ticking sound. They require you to rush what you're doing as each second passes by. They fill you with dread and fright if you're even one minute late to something.
There have been many discussions and debates on whether time is a mental abstract construct or a relative thing. Whatever you believe, I feel that many humans put so much meaning behind those numbers. They enable and empower time by constantly allowing to be rushed by it. So many people are so caught up in what they're doing or where they're going, they forget to live in the moment. Others are constantly afraid they don't have enough time and continuously worry over missing out on moments.
Here's the thing, time doesn't wait for anyone. It's constantly going whether you want it to or not. No matter how much you want a moment to last, it has to end. But it's not all bad, because you have the opportunity to make more moments and create some amazing memories.
As much as we feel rushed to move on to the next thing, it should sometimes be welcomed. It allows us to become grateful for the small moments and pushes us to live our lives. Time won't slow down and it won't speed up, so you just have to go with it.
