I bet you thought that after Halloween you were going to enjoy some nice "R&R" as your mind drifted away, pondering when Thanksgiving would arrive.
Nope, not at all.
If you own a TV, have a radio, or head into ANY store. It's already the "holiday season."
Christmas is basically upon us, yet just a day ago it was 70 degrees outside. Looks like Frosty is going to melt this year...*sigh*
No matter!
Here in the U.S. we live in a sped-up culture. Everything, especially in New York, is about moving on to the next thing. I bet your Halloween candy wasn't even halfway down your gullet when you heard a commercial for a Hallmark movie about the love of Christmas. Don't get me started on those cheesy movies either (although some are fairly entertaining)..but I digress.
Throughout all this holiday "hooplah" as the commercials roll in for new products, the various advertisements shine on billboards and stores are filled with lines out the door, please do not lose sight of the big picture.
Whether you are honoring Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, Mawlid an-Nabi, Bodhi Day or any other celebration, be sure to enjoy the family and friends that you have around you.
This holiday season, make sure you're not stuck shopping or getting too caught up in any of the superficial (yet appreciated) gift giving and money spending.
Our time here is short, and memories are what make life the joyous experience that it is for us. The New Year will be upon us in the blink of an eye. As we look towards the future, let us all be sure to reflect on the decisions we have made in 2015 and realize what our true priorities are.
At the end of every day, the things that are truly invaluable are LOVE and TIME. These are the values that bring us together. No matter how much money you make, no matter what your beliefs are, no matter where you come from, these are the most precious things around. Be sure to give them this holiday season and all year round!
