In a world where everyone attempts to be trendy, having unique clothes can be a challenge. Most stores sell the same type of popular, "trendy" items that every other person has in their closet. These trendy items are cute, don't get me wrong, which is why they are so popular, but it's nice to be a little different from the crowd with unique pieces once in a while.
Thrifting is a great way to not only find cool pieces for your wardrobe, but also save some cash. Thrifting may seem a little daunting to someone who doesn't do it that often, so I'm here to offer a few tips on how to thrift like a pro so that we can all be stylin' on a budget.
1. Keep an open mind
When looking in thrift shops, try to be open to a lot of different styles of clothes. Something that may seem quirky could actually turn into a really cool outfit. Don't be afraid to branch out.
2. Go to local stores
Of course Goodwill and Salvation Army are good options, but local thrift shops can sometimes be better. Here you'll find pieces that locals have worn and no longer use.
3. Transform your clothes
Remember that you can always transform the clothes you find to find your size and style. For example, you can cut and crop a big t-shirt to make it more fitting or trendy, or you can turn a pair of long jeans into cute shorts.
4. Borrow your mom or dad’s clothes
Honestly, our parents can have some cool vintage clothes that are trendy now. My dad has given me some old funny t-shirts that I wear all the time, and my mom gives me clothes that she doesn't wear anymore. This is a good way to save money too.
5. Keep trying
If you go into one store and don't find anything, don't get discouraged. Sometimes stores will have been picked through, or that particular store doesn't have your style. Try a few before you give up.
6. Explore all sections
Don't be scared to roam into the men's section if you're a girl or the women's if you're a guy. Cute clothes can be found in all sections of the store, no matter your gender!
