As the brutal winter weather customary to Colgate University and the Central New York area has finally bestowed itself upon us, (the temperature on February 13 was about -25°F with wind chill!) Colgate students and faculty have been thoroughly reminded of the gruesome and unbearable side effects of the weather. Though we have been quite lucky this year with the El-Nino weather system causing unseasonably high temperatures and abnormally low amounts of snow and precipitation, it is still hard not to hate the subzero temperatures and the consequences of such frigid climate. Here are X amount of thoughts every Colgate University student and/or faculty member has had during the harsh winter.
1. The sun's out! It can't be that cold.
2. Time to put on my layers: one tank top, one pair of pants, jeans or thicker pants over that pair of pants, a fleece jacket, my long jacket that goes down to my ankles, a hat, two scarves, fuzzy socks, and boots with fur that go up to my thigh.
3. I look like a walking snowman.
4. Dear Sun, you deceived me. It is that cold. Are you even producing any heat?!
5. Ohmigod I can't feel any part of my body.
6. Can I really get frostbite?
7. How does one cure frostbite?
8. WHOMP! *falls from the sheet of ice on the ground* OW!!!
9. How many bruises is this winter going to give me?
10. WHERE IN THE NAME THAT ALL IS HOLY IS THE CRUISER?!
11. I can't stand outside another minute for the cruiser, I need to find another way to class.
12. Maybe I'll walk and can get warm from moving.
13. Yeah no, my lungs will freeze walking trying to catch my breathe up the Persons steps.
14. If I start jumping up and down at the cruiser stop now to warm myself up will people think I'm crazy?
15. *finally gets on the cruiser* I can still see my breath in here.
16. I am really cold, but I am now sweating under the 17 layers of clothing I wore. How is this healthy and possible.
17. I have sweat stains, but at least I can cover it up with some layering item I wore!
18. Strands of my hair are frozen with icicles hanging on it. I am actually now a real walking snowman.
19. I wonder if my car will start.
20. I want coffee but know it's going to freeze the moment it's removed from the heater.
21. *large snow pile/icicle falls off the side of Lathrop/Lawrence* OMG I WAS ALMOST HIT BY THAT. MY LIFE JUST FLASHED BEFORE MY EYES.
22. It is sad that I am at the point where I can feel and tell when the temperature has risen above 0°F.
23. Does the heat in this building go any higher?
24. Seriously, how many days until summer?
