27 Thoughts You Have Working The Overnight Shift

The sunrise watch. The third shift. The graveyard shift. Whatever you call your overnight shift, there's plenty of time to think, and to overthink, just about everything. There's no doubt that some of the craziest things can happen in the early hours of the morning.

1. "Alright, I hope I got enough sleep before this."

2. "Well, my coworkers just left and now it's too quiet."

3. "I hope this goes by quick. Probably not, though."

4. "Nope. There's no way I forgot to bring X."

5. "I'm not going to survive without X."

6. "Oh, thank god. My coworker has what I was looking for."

7. *After completing all tasks for the shift in an hour* "Are you serious? It's only 2 o'clock?"

8. "At least someone from a different department came over for thirty minutes and now I only have five and a half hours left."

9. "Anddd, it's too quiet again."

10. "What's that noise?"

11. "Just the printer. OK. OK. Nothing creepy."

12. "And what's THAT noise?"

13. "And it's just the air conditioning. These noises gotta stop."

14. "OK REALLY HOW MANY CREEPY NOISES DOES THIS PLACE HAVE????"

15. "YEP CAN'T EXPLAIN THAT NOISE OR WHERE IT'S COMING FROM."

16. "Finally! The noises stopped!!!"

17. "I can't believe all my friends failed me and didn't stay up with me. #rude."

18. "I really just want to go home. And it's only 4 a.m.!"

19. "I can just distract myself with Netflix."

20. *A movie and two episodes of the Office later* "I mean, at least my shift's almost over."

21. *Me at 6:01 a.m.* "I just wanna sleep."

22. "At least other employees are starting to come in."

23. "Oh, I miss the quiet."

24. "Wow, none of my friends are up yet. Lame."

25. "This last hour is the worst. Where's the next shift at?"

26. "Yessssss. Human contact after silence for 8 hours."

27. FREEDOM. *RUNS TO MY CAR*

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
