12 Thoughts Every Girl Has The First Time She Gets Her Hair Dyed By A PROFESSIONAL

I have dyed my hair nearly every color of the rainbow. In fact, all that's really left is orange and maybe neon green, but I'm not sure I'm bold enough to those.

I never go to a salon to get it done. Somehow, I always think I'm perfectly capable of doing it on my own, only to discover time and time again that I, in fact, am not.

Take this most recent dye job, for example. The box said "Lusty Lavender." I had bleached my hair and was expecting a soft purple hue. I did everything according to the directions, patiently let the color process, and rinsed.

Spoiler: my hair was not Lusty Lavender. It was more...Muppet Magenta.

The color faded to a soft pink not long after, but it was easy to see how patchy the dye was. So when I decided to go back to natural colors, I figured it was safer to leave it to someone who knew what they were doing.

So here are all the thoughts I had while getting my hair done for the first time.

1. Oooh, this is going to be great!

I am ready to have normal-looking hair.

2. This is gonna cost how much now?!

My at-home dye jobs never cost more than $12...I got what I paid for most definitely with those.

3. Is it supposed to tingle?

Yeah, it doesn't feel like this at home.

4. Now it actually kind of stings. It’s fine, everything’s FINE.

Hahahaha it definitely doesn't sting when I do it at home, what's going on?

 5. Can I pee with this on my head?

An important question.

6. I really need to pee.

I could not find the bathroom in that salon ANYWHERE.

7. Can we wash this off now?

I am ready to see my new hair!

8. Okay, this is serious, where is the bathroom??

This is not a joke, people.

9. I'm bored, is my hair ready yet?

This has been the longest hour and a half of my life!

10. New Hair, New Hair, New Hair!

New hair!

11. I love it!

Yes! Amazing! I am a work of art!

12. Okay, time to go to the bathroom now.

This was fun, but I've been looking for the bathroom for an hour.

I'd say my first time getting my hair done at a salon was a success, even if I couldn't find the bathroom.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
