Thoughts While Flying

These things go through my mind every time I get on an airplane.

Thoughts While Flying

Flying is an experience that is different for everyone. Some find it relaxing, whereas others think it's one of the most stressful things ever. I have to take long flights between where I go to college and my home several times every year, and whether it is a short, quick trip, or a long, overseas flight, here are some thoughts that always go through my mind and that a lot of people will probably be able to relate to:

1. In the morning: “Gosh I have a long day ahead of me”

Knowing that it will be a long time until you get your next good-night's sleep.

2. “I hope I don’t get seated next to someone annoying”

When traveling alone you never know who you will be seated next to. Just hope it's not someone that snores too loudly, farts too much, or invades your personal space.

3. “I hope the airport has a Starbucks”

That much-needed coffee though.

4. “I hope the seats have individual movie screens”

Those screens... Everyone's best friend.

5. “This is the most uncomfortable I’ve ever been”

Sitting for hours on a plane can get extremely uncomfortable and it isn't long until your butt starts to hurt.

6. “Is the person in back of me pretending to play soccer or something?"

That constant kicking can be the most annoying thing in the world. It's the last thing you need when your butt and back are already hurting and all you want is to go for a walk.

7. "I am so bored"

SO. BORED. Even getting bored of watching movies.

8. “Oooohhh I can smell the food coming, YES!”

Airplane food may not be the best, but when you're hungry and longing for something to do it's a lifesaver.

9. “I’ll try to sleep so the trip goes by faster”

10. “Never mind, there is no way I can sleep in this position”

Everything is going to hurt if I decide to sleep like this.

11. “OMG I can see (insert city name)! It’s so beautiful!”

The view is always worth it, and if you are excited about your final destination, looking back to it you realize that the plane ride was not all that bad after all.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
