This will be the third part in a series on some of the characters in the upcoming movie "Captain America: Civil War." So far I've already covered both Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes. Today I'll write about a character on the opposing side: none other than Iron Man.
Tony Stark and Steve Rogers are the leaders of the opposing sides. Tony's motivations in the movie are fairly obvious to me. Even after -- and also because of -- the fiasco that was Ultron, Tony still sees that they need to be put in check. He fears repeating the same mistake again. However, Steve seems to believe that that's exactly what he's doing. This seems to be the different points that pit the two against each other.
There is another issue I'd like to cover in regards to Tony Stark's side in this war. If they delve into the Superhero Registration Act like they do in the comics, I can easily see why the Captain would take issue. In lieu of the recent events in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier", it's no surprise that Steve would be leery of giving such sensitive information to a government that had so recently been revealed to have secret members of Hydra within it.
The real issue is that both Tony and Steve feel that they're doing the right thing. This is honestly what sets them so firmly against each other. They each truly believe that the other is wrong and that they would be helping people by maintaining their position. This is also one of the things that will make the movie emotionally gut wrenching, aside from all the potential deaths that we're being teased with.
Bucky Barnes also seems to be a point of contention between the two heroes. There was recently another promo which appears to show Bucky being arrested. In another piece of footage, we see a mysterious circular fortress in the sea. Some, including myself, think this may be a sort of prison. It's even possible that Bucky himself ends up being held there. In one of the trailers, we've also seen Bucky suspended by a sinister-looking piece of machinery. This as my initial suspicion when I saw it, but when combined with this new information, it's more than possible that he's being held by either Tony Stark or the U.S. government. It would be no surprise that Steve would disagree with such treatment of Bucky. After all, Steve has risked his life for Bucky's safety and freedom on more than one occasion. It's more than possible that Bucky is the last straw and the starting point of the war.
While I must say that I disagree with Tony Stark, I can understand his motives and the reasoning behind his position in all this. Emotionally, the roughest part of this movie is that we're going to see a team split in two and turn against itself. In spite of how emotional this movie is going to make us all, I'm very much looking forward to the movie release on May 6.
