Sitting impatiently through your last few (unbelievably boring) senior classes, you daydream about the next chapter that you are about to take part in: college! Your high school classes are getting less and less relevant; however, they still matter. You sit there thinking about how fast high school has forwarded you into reality. Sometimes reality can be the scariest part of college and growing up, but most of the time the gateway into the real world can give you a great deal of opportunities. At least a few times a day, you daydream about that one special college you will soon be attending in the fall and become even more intrigued.
Countdown to high school graduation? 25...20...15 days (more or less.) Thinking "I can't wait to just graduate and go off to college!" over and over again and believing that you're completely ready to temporarily leave behind your life in your small town, but deep down being scared of being on your own for the first time in your life. Mom and Dad won't be there to take care of you; it's all up to your "grownup" self.
Wanting to escape that small town you have lived in most of your life, wanting to escape those people you thought you could never escape from, wanting to leave the stress of high school behind you; however, you can only temporarily escape and throw away the thought of your previous life in that small town. Sooner or later, everything will come back to you; it's life. Whether you're staying in the same state, being educated three hours away, or traveling across the country for college, your life in that small, little town still matters, and it still exists.
The whole college process has been one of the biggest stresses through your senior year, but totally and completely worth it. Nothing is better than that feeling of falling in love with that one college and putting your committing deposit down. It's almost like getting married and committing to the one you know is right for you! You have essentially made out a plan for the next four or so years of your life: Congratulations, that's the first step into independence and adulthood!
The days are going by faster and faster, and college life is arriving sooner and sooner. Thinking about college has prioritized your life so much that you have forgotten to see what is still present: the end of your senior year and all the lifetime friendships you have made. Of course you are going to miss all of your friends who have stuck to you like glue since that first awkward year as a freshman, but you're also getting ahead of yourself and wondering about all the new people you are about to meet; curiosity awakens your mind.
Preparing for college is the best part; shopping for everything to give your dorm a little taste of yourself. Roommate? You can tell you two are going to be best friends already. Parties? The occasional outing is proficient, but you did choose to go to college for the main reason being your education to set up your future in your chosen career.
As it is getting closer and closer to your move-in day, you actually realize how high school (let alone senior year itself) has flown by so fast. Cherish everything you have gained in your high school experience and bring that with you into your awaiting college life. Most of all, college should be a new and exciting outcome in your life, and you have worked hard to get to this point; be proud of that. You did it.
