If you are like me, watching Netflix sounds much better than writing papers or going to work. And if you aren't like me and actually enjoy writing papers and going to work, I not only suggest you see someone about that (just kidding, good for you!) but, that you put some time aside to get on Netflix and watch the new series, 13 Reasons Why.
The show is based off Jay Asher's 2007 novel, with the same title. Clay Jenson, played by Dylan Minnette, is a high school student whose friend and crush, Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) committed suicide. Hannah left behind 13 cassette tapes each with a reason why she took her own life.
I'll admit it: the show is hard to watch at times due to the heavy topics. But, it is important and worth it.
So parents, students, teachers, EVERYONE: this show is not just another Netflix binge, it is very real and something we should all inform ourselves on.
Here are13 Reasons Why you should watch this show:
1. It handles real topics that need more attention.
2. It leads to a LOT of discussion.
3. It can change the way people feel, think, and act.
4. Hannah perfectly explains everything that is wrong about the education system.
5. The characters are so DIVERSE in their ethnicity, upbringing, and personality.
6. It explains how important it is to LIVE in the present.
7. It teaches that you never really know everything that other people are going through.
8. It shares the message to be nice to everyone.
9. Not saying "no" does NOT mean "yes."
10. It has characters like Jeff, who show that life is not always fair.
11. Talking about your feelings is so important.
