13 Reasons Why
NY Daily News

13 Reasons Why was released on Netflix earlier this month and has been met with well-deserved love. The adaptation of books to film usually never quite conveys the full story line, often leaving out the parts that make you relate the most since you don’t get the details or inner workings of a character’s mind. 13 Reasons Why is different. Not only do we still get the details, we get an emotional portrayal of a topic so often glossed over in Hollywood. This show was approached with honesty; while sometimes being difficult to watch, the show has an important and powerful message. Even with the important messages conveyed, I found myself getting frustrated while watching- not just at all of the horrible things that happen, but with Hannah Baker herself. As important as it is to be kind, it is also important to remember that although you cannot control what happens to you, you can control how you react.

With all the buzz already going on about the show, I’m sure you don’t need a list of reasons to watch it. Instead, I’ll share a list of the 13 lessons this show conveys.

  1. You should be kind to everyone- regardless of a TV show.
  2. Your actions matter. Every single one of them. You never know how much of an impact your words can have on somebody.
  3. Don’t be afraid to love.
  4. Never minimize someone’s problems just because they don’t seem important to you.
  5. Listen.
  6. People don’t always get what they deserve. There are so many people that deserve a better hand than they’ve been dealt in life. Jeff Atkins is proof of that.
  7. It’s okay if you’re not okay.
  8. Reach out to people. You never know the difference you can make just by caring.
  9. You can’t fix everything.
  10. Your life and presence in this world have a greater impact than you realize.
  11. Own up to your mistakes.
  12. Just because something is difficult to talk about does not mean that you should not talk about it.
  13. We do not have to be a victim of circumstance. We are responsible for our own mental health. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
