5 Things You Can Do When Visiting Arizona
My Wild Dreams

As an Arizona native, I like to think I have done all the tourist-like things, but have also discovered a lot of "off the grid" activities that are unique to this state. If you ever thought Arizona was boring or didn't have something for everyone, get ready to think again!

1. Grand Canyon Taverns

Arizona is full of caves and tunnels alike anywhere you go, Flagstaff, Tucson and many other small cities. This one happens to be located off of Historic Route 66, closest known town is Nelson, Arizona. The Grand Canyon Tavern offers many different types of tours, but a personal favorite is the Ghost Walk Tour. These caves are located 200 feet underground, and it is known by Arizona natives that a handful of people have lost their lives in these cold, deep caves and still lay at rest there. By both guests and staff weird paranormal activity have been noted such as voices, whispers and strange shadows. Whether or not you believe in this stuff, it is an awesome and chilling experience for only $20, makes a great road trip and is perfect for October!

2. White Water Rafting the Grand Canyon

If you are from Arizona like me, the thought of the Grand Canyon is not that enticing anymore, right? Your family from out of state comes and wants to go see the rims that you've already seen 10 times over your life span, and it's just not the same anymore. Don't get me wrong, it's always a beautiful sight, but why not take advantage of the amazing variety this canyon offers? One of my favorite experiences I have had in my home state is white water rafting down the canyon. It is exhilarating with the most amazing views of the canyon. You get to raft all day over huge wave breaks, stop to eat lunch at beautiful spots and cliff jump off little spots in the vast canyon walls. If you like to take it easy, I recommend going in the summer or fall and if you are an adrenaline junky and enjoy questionable times, go in the spring when all of the snow is melting off the mountains causing huge rapids. Either way, it makes for an amazing day trip with unbeatable views.

3. Fossil Creek

Fossil Creek is becoming more popular and well known as the years go on, but it is a perfect summer place here in Arizona. The water is crystal clear with some of the best cliff jumping and waterfalls Arizona has to offer. The beautiful scenery makes for a perfect picnic lunch as well. I highly recommend checking this gorgeous spot out with all the hiking, swimming and other amenities it has to offer.

4. Jerome, Arizona

Jerome is a little town built into the side of a mountain and truly has something for all interests. There is hiking near by, cute shops, amazing food and museums. If you are looking for an over night stay they have what is said to be a haunted hotel which is very popular and well known. Only being an hour outside of Phoenix, it is a perfect day trip for all people.

5. Sunrise Ski Resort

Sunrise ski resort has so much to offer year round, and is my favorite snowboarding spot in the winter. In the summer there is everything from wild zip-lining, relaxing and scenic horseback riding, mountain biking, amazing hikes, tubing and so much more. In the winter, there is good snow for Arizona and it is one of the only places in Arizona where you can truly experiences all four of the seasons.

Even if these are far out of the way or you need something closer to Phoenix there is so much more to offer in the valley as well. Camelback Mountain is a great workout with a view that makes it all worth it (bring more water than you think you might need), Lake Pleasant and Saguaro Lake offer a variety of water oriented activities, downtown has museums showcasing decades of history and there is hip resturuants on every corner!

Happy exploring!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
