As I drove back to my house to pack up my things again, blasting Fetty Wap, I noticed the air start to get cooler. I had just said goodbye to friends from high school. The whole atmosphere was conducive to a personal recollection of everything that has happened this summer and the past year. I've heard so many people this last week say that they feel "really good about this school year." So you can put some truth to that statement, here are some things you've become too old to deal with.
1. Toxic friendships
Who is a toxic friend? A friend who doesn't make you feel good about yourself or isn't trustworthy and supportive. Previously, you might have kept these humans around for the sole reason of familiarity or comfort. But frankly, you're too old for that kind of relationship going into this new school year. Surround yourself with people who make you feel something positive, whether it be productive, loved, or supported.
2. Poor self worth
You're way too old to not know how much you're worth. The people who make you feel any less than that fall into the "toxic relationship" category and you should get rid of them before they can put you down any further. I once had a friend talk to me about a guy she liked and how she was confused if he reciprocated the feelings. After seeing all the signs, I told her he was definitely interested. And her response? "But why would a guy like that, like a girl like me?" Bottom line, you're worth so much. You have so much to offer the world. Value yourself and *plot twist* you'll find people who treat you with the same respect.
3. A lack of goals
Whether you're a rising junior in high school or in your twenties, you've gotten too old to have no idea what you want in life. Whether your goal be to eat healthier or get an A on your next Calculus test, know that you have the ability to make that happen. It might require some serious sacrifices and extra help, but this year is about finally achieving those things you've half-finished or barely even started.
