Having a younger sibling is an adventure like no other. You have to share your life with someone you love but do not always like. Sometimes you feel like the only thing you have in common is the fact that you share the same DNA and sometimes, it does not even feel like you share that. No matter how much we pretend we dislike our younger siblings, here are a few things we never said directly, but most definitely need to be heard.

  • I love our inside jokes.

These are the jokes that we cannot say too loud in a public place for fear of being shunned. These jokes are things that I say to my friends on accident realizing that they will never understand just how sleep deprived we were to come up with the jokes in the first place.

  • I love when you text me for advice.

I may not know exactly what to say, and most of the time I might just agree with you, but it means the world that if mom does not have the answers, you turn to me to complain about whatever scenario is bugging you.

  • Thank you for calling me just to say hi.

These are the days that I would get a phone call out of the blue from you just because you needed to pass the time while waiting in line for lunch.

  • Watching T.V. until 4 am are some of my favorite memories.

I may not remember what we were watching, but I do remember eating junk food until all hours of the night watching reruns of some old T.V. show until we both passed out on the couch.

  • I actually liked driving you places before you got your license.

Fighting over the radio was NOT a plus, but singing songs on repeat and making up dance moves we hoped no one would see as we drove by were things I never hope to forget.

  • Thank you for supporting me- in everything.

No matter what I have done, you have always been there to support me. I always see your face in the crowd and get to hug your neck to thank you for being at whatever event I was participating in.

  • Thank you for hating the people I dated.

You knew off the bat if the person I brought home to meet mom and dad was not right for me, and you showed it. I realize that you were protecting me from people that did not deserve me, and that means the world to me now.

  • Thank you for being my best friend.

Yes, I may have said that the girl I met in the 8th grade was my best friend, but they could never know me like you do. You know what irks me and how to cheer me up when I feel down. Nothing compares to finally becoming friends with your sibling.

  • Your potential is through the roof.

Yes, I may be “older”, but you and I both know that you are ten times smarter than I will ever be. Somehow, you got all of the common sense that passed me by. You have life by the horns and nothing is stopping you. I hope one day you can see yourself through my eyes.

  • I have loved watching you grow up.

Yes, in my mind you are still fourteen, but realizing what a wonderful individual you have become is beyond me. Watching you pass all of the milestones I have gone through makes me excited for the future.

  • Things get better.

Although today may seem like the end of the world, nothing lasts forever. Fear and negativity are clouds that pass across the sun. They dim the light, and sometimes they rain and rain, but the rain never lasts forever. As for me, I will always be a phone call away waiting to cheer you up with an inappropriate joke and night full of T.V. marathons.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
