Things You Know To Be True If You Are From Upstate NY
Natalie Braman

I love calling Upstate home! It has shaped me in so many ways! But it is funny to joke about it... here's how

First of all, you know this map is inaccurate

The yellow is supposed to represent "Upstate" ... but let's be real, Upstate starts much further UP the state than shown here

Chances are you have driven in conditions like this maybe once ... or a million times in your life

Here's to always keeping a snow brush in your car

You or someone you know definitely went to a SUNY

Let's be real ... they are the best state schools in the country

This is your idea of an amusement park

But you're also aware that the Rochester one is the superior one

You bleed Orange

(disregard the Go Heels ... my dad's a UNC fan)

You've been to one of the Finger Lakes at least once in your life

You know that not everywhere Upstate actually looks like this stock photo of some farm

Despite what those city folk like to say

You probably consider driving around the back roads fun

AM Mantei

TBH nothing else to really do up here

You pronounce "creek" like "crik" ...

and "aunt" like "ant" and "roof" like "ruff"

You go crazy for St. Patrick's Day Parades

A good friend of mine, John, enjoying Binghamton's 2019 Parade Day!

You have visited the Adirondacks and love going there

You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
