I am just going to come right out and say it: I cannot stand homework. At times, it is a helpful study tool, but roughly 95.47 percent of the time, it is absolutely pointless. As I work on assignments that could have so easily been completed during class, I constantly wonder how in the world this will help me in the future. My mind is always fighting a constant battle of "You really need to do this assignment so your grade doesn't suffer." v. "Your grade will suffer more if you die of sleep loss." Usually, sleep wins.
I am also the world's greatest procrastinator. You may think that you are, but you're wrong. For example, just last week I wrote a whole paper (start to finish) less than two hours before it was due. I generally try to justify some sort of reason as to why I put off homework, but usually my excuse is that I just can't focus on it. I always think "I would literally rather be doing anything else."
One night last week while I was trying to finish a Spanish assignment, I had this same reoccurring thought. Soon after, I had the genius idea to make an actual list of things that I would rather do than homework. Because obviously that is productive. I showed my specified list to some of my friends and they all agreed that it was a pretty solid and accurate list. So, without further delay, here is my list of real life things that I would rather do than homework:
1. Watch something, ANYTHING on Netflix.
2. Post my life story on Facebook.
3. Climb Mt. Everest in a bathing suit.
4. Change a flat tire in the rain.
5. Sleep...? Is that still a thing?
6. Donate plasma.
7. Clean the bathroom.
8. Run a marathon.
9. Re-live 7th grade.
10. Get my legs waxed.
11. Let my boyfriend wear cargos.
12. Eat mayonnaise out of the jar.
13. Go to the gym and actually work out.
14. Watch a foreign film without subtitles.
15. Paint a stranger's toenails.
16. Spend a night in prison.
17. Cut the grass with a pair of scissors.
18. Eat unseasoned vegetables.
19. Walk my dog in a thunderstorm.
20. Crank that Soulja Boy.
If you have made it this far in the article, my guess is that you, yourself would rather be doing anything than homework. You're probably reading this as you procrastinate writing a paper or study for a test. Well, more power to you! Enjoy this whole new list of ideas to get you thinking and help you procrastinate. You're welcome. Happy homeworking!
