A Letter to My Younger Self
Marissa DePino

Dear Younger Me,

In your lifetime so much will change, from your friends to your dreams for the future. It may seem scary at first to face these changes that will come to you, but keep your head up because you will get through them successfully.

1. Don't be afraid to try new things

While things may seem scary at first, put yourself out there and try new things. Don't let your fear of failure keep you from doing what you love and being you.

2. Always be yourself

Never change for anyone, ever! If they don't like you, then there is a problem with them, not you. Stay true to yourself, and don't let others influence who you are or what you do.

3. Be more decisive

When it comes to making decisions, be more forward and decide. Don't worry about making the wrong decision. I mean, chocolate or vanilla ice cream is not a life changing decision.

4. Never stop laughing

The saying that "laughter is the best medicine" is true. Laugh as much and as often as you want to be happy.

5. Remember, life is what you make it

Remember: you are in charge of your own destiny. It is up to you what your life will be like, so make the most of the life you have.

6. Cherish your family

You can always count on your family. While friends may come and go, your family will always be there for you. So create memories and enjoy every moment you have with them. Remember as you get older, so are they.

7. Live in the moment

While it is important to think about the future, don't worry about the future to such a degree that it prevents you from enjoying the moments you have. You only have so many moments in life to enjoy and you will never have the ability to go back. Never let the future consume you.

8. Love like there is no tomorrow

Your heart is fragile and it may be scary to open it up, but it has room to love. So love your family and your friends and remember that love is endless.

9. Smile

Being kind doesn't always get enough credit in this world, but kindness is one of the most important traits to possess. Be kind to everyone you meet and give them your best smile. You never know, you may be able to make someone's day.

10. Have fun and participate

Go on adventures and put your best foot forward. Whether that is traveling the world someday or participating in a dance contest, participate in the world around you. Don't just stand there and be a mindless clone and conform to society, stand out and be the best you that you can be.

There is so much in your future that awaits you. So enjoy every moment of it, for each day holds a new surprise.

Love,

Your Older Self

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
