Growing up, I didn’t know much about being in a sorority since my mom wasn’t involved with Greek life. When I was looking at colleges, I was open to the idea of Greek life, but it wasn’t much of a necessity. After I made the decision to go to TCU, I registered for formal recruitment – not knowing this particular decision would change my life.
Recruitment was something I had never experienced before nor would I ever experience something like it again.
Deciding to join a sorority is a big step. You are committing to a group of girls and a sisterhood for life. Here are some things I wish I knew before joining a sorority.
1. These sisters of mine are girls that I don’t know how I survived without.
Our bond is something that cannot be explained. I know that these girls are going to be by my side through all of life’s moments – good and bad. The crazy part is, I have only known these girls for a year, but I know they are with me for a lifetime.
2. Your sorority pushes you in the best way possible.
My sorority has helped me to set my goals and attain them. I personally believe I am more focused on my GPA and more attentive towards my leadership skills because of my sisters.
3. I am so involved both on campus and in my sorority.
There are so many ways that you can get involved. Because of my sisters, I heard about different organizations on campus that sparked my interest. Being in a sorority helped me get involved with a lot of things. I even had multiple opportunities for leadership within my sorority just in my freshman year alone.
4. My sisters will always be loyal to me.
Whether they are my best friends in the chapter or girls I barely know, I can count on every single one of my sisters. I know that if I ask for their help, they will be there to lend me a hand. They have my back no matter what.
5. A sorority gives you a lifetime of memories.
I cannot begin to say how many times I have laughed and cried in the same sentence or done something so silly and crazy with my sisters. Whether we do something as simple as go out to get food or something special like our semi-formal, each moment spent with my sisters is a perfect memory.
