I am not very old. In fact, by most people's standards, I am rather young. That being said, every now and then I will come across something on the internet that makes me feel incredibly old. It's strange to me that there are things that I remember that happened a number of years ago. That's just how time works, but it still manages to boggle my mind quite regularly. Since misery loves company, I figured it would be a good time to share some of the movies and songs that are now 10 years old this year. Enjoy.
1. "Cars"
In the span of 10 years, there has been a sequel to this movie, and an entire land at Disneyland dedicated to Cars.
2. "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby"
Since this movie graced the silver screen, phrases like "shake n' bake" have become part of the colloquial language.
3. "The Pink Panther"
If you saw that gif and didn't start singing the theme song, bravo. This Pink Panther reboot will forever live in our hearts mainly because of Steve Martin's, well, Steve-ness. Beyonce also graced us with her presence in this movie.
4. "Little Miss Sunshine"
This movie is memorable because of its depiction of teenage angst and its iconic yellow van. Everyone who's seen it, and some who haven't, can tell you about the amazing color-blind scene.
5. "Night at the Museum"
In the 10 years since this movie premiered, there has been a sequel and a threequel. I don't know if that's an academic term, but there have been two other movies made with mostly the same cast. Movies take quite a while to make, and I'm just astounded that they were able to make two more in this series in 10 years.
6. "Bad Day" - Daniel Powter
This was my rainy day song when I was younger. I vividly remember sitting in the back seat of my dad's van and hearing this on the radio, looking out the window as if there were cameras following me in the movie of my life.
7. "You're Beautiful" - James Blunt
Everyone wished Aaron Carter would sing them this song in third grade. This song also was very popular on Sesame Street with their own version called "My Triangle." It's a classic.
8. "Hips Don't Lie" - Shakira
This song made me feel like I could dance like no other. Even Tom Hiddleston thinks this song is worthy of being on his I-pod.
9. "Unwritten" - Natasha Bedingfield
Featured in the movie "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," released in 2005, this song was an anthem for girls everywhere ready for their books to begin.
10. "Sexyback" - Justin Timberlake
Oh, Justin Timberlake, how much we love you. You can practically never do any wrong. This song made all of us feel like we were cool older girls when we were definitely, probably 10.
Well everyone, I hope you've enjoyed this walk down memory lane. Maybe I'm not the only one who feels so old after looking at all of these movies and songs that came out 10 years ago. Let's hope 2016 brings us fantastic songs and movies like 2006 did.
