Things I Miss About Being A Freshman

It's freshmen year, you're fresh out of high school, and ready to start a new life. Oh, how I miss those days. Freshmen year was such an exciting time in many of our lives. You can start over and become a new person, make new friends and have no one to judge you or talk about your past history. You don’t get a lot of chances in life to start over, but freshmen year is the miracle that we all wish for. Being an upperclassmen, we hear complaints from freshmen all the time about how much they hate school, and how this and that sucks. No. Don’t even complain, just wait and see what you are going to miss once you become a sophomore.

Easy Classes- If you are a freshman and you think the classes that you are taking are hard, then wait until your second year of college. Classes are never going to get easier; the older you get, the harder it is. Do not take all the extra credits and busy work that your professor gives you for granted, you will be wishing you had busy work instead of tests that count for 90 percent of your grade. Enjoy your easy 101 classes while they last.

New Life- Fresh in college, this is the best time of your college career. You have the opportunity to make new friends and find a place that you fit into. College is the perfect place to get a new reputation for yourself if you had a bad one in high school. Take my advice; don’t wait until sophomore year to take advantage of this. All college freshmen are thirsty for new friends.

No Cooking- You think dorm food is bad? Yeah, cannot argue with that one…it’s still pretty bad BUT, at least you do not have to cook for yourself. Once you become independent and old, you actually have to spend your own money on food, how crazy is that? After coming home from a long day of class, the last thing you want to do is cook. Enjoy the pre-made meals while you can, even if it does not taste like your mom’s homemade meals.

No Worries- You are only a freshman which means jobs and internships are not as important to you yet. Once you are a junior, getting a big kid job will be the only thing on your mind. Enjoy your last year of being a child. Growing up really sucks sometimes, so be as immature as you can for one more year.

Mistake Making Time- If you f*** up during your freshmen year, people will shrug it off because you are still young. It is your time to make mistakes and learn from it. Once you are older, there is no time for mistakes. One mistake in school might make you not graduate on time, and one mistake at a party might ruin your reputation with your friends… be careful.

No Cleaning- Community bathrooms are not the most luxurious thing in the world, but at least someone cleans it for you every single morning. Living in your own apartment or house means cleaning up your own bathroom and requires you to actually be independent and grow up, yuck. The struggle is real when you are older, so enjoy every bit of freshmen year.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
