I love makeup. I truly think it is an art form where you are able to express yourself in so many ways. Your face is your canvas and your brushes are your tools. Buying new makeup sparks an exciting feeling deep in my core. Unboxing that new makeup is even better. I am tired of being shammed for something I love. I see it all the time in tweets, Facebook posts, YouTube comments, etc. People are shamming MUA's (makeup artists) and people who just love makeup for the simple fact that they are creating, and that makes people uncomfortable. Men in makeup is an amazing thing and I am so happy that the makeup world has evolved to accept that. The makeup lovers and the non-makeup lovers need to just hug it out and go get some coffee together. Here are a few things makeup addicts are sick of hearing:
1. "How do you put all that makeup on every morning? I could never do that."
OK, good for you, but we love self expression and for us it is a calming experience. We enjoy our extra time it takes for us to get ready. If that means getting up a half hour earlier so I can "bake" my face then so be it. I'm gonna do me.
2. "Makeup isn't a real look, I prefer a more natural look."
Makeup isn't meant to be natural. We want to look different and hide our imperfections. Thinking out of the box is what we do as lovers of makeup. We have a "natural look" in the makeup world and it takes about 27 products and brushes to get there ;)
3. "Why pay $40 for foundation when you can use that money for something else?"
Because its great foundation that provides a flawless coverage, that's why. Why do some people spend so much money on coffee? We don't know why we do it, but it's an addiction and we crave it.
4. "Why do you need so many shades of the same color [insert generic color here] lipstick?"
THEY'RE NOT THE SAME! If you tell a makeup lover this they will go off. Each shade is different. Hello come through Velvet Teddy, Whirl, Kinda Sexy...ALL DIFFERENT!
5. "What's a Jaclyn Hill? MannyMUA? PatrickStarrr?"
These are my people and I basically know their bathroom schedule I'm that dedicated to them. They are the superstars of the makeup world and shall be treated as queens.
So as you can see I am very passionate about my makeup and the fabulous people who make the makeup world possible. It is a creative expression outlet for some. Sometimes we don't know why we buy 9 similar colors of blush, but we just do, so don't hate on us for it. We can have a natural day too without makeup. We are just like you; normal. We won't judge you for not liking makeup and we ask of you to not judge us for loving it. Next time you see someone with a full face, compliment them because I guarantee it took about an hour to put that face on. Don't be afraid to ask questions either. Makeup lovers LOVE to give tips and advice on how to apply makeup. All in all, makeup is important to us and we just want to be accepted like everyone else.
