Growing up, change was something I never looked forward to. However, college has changed quite a few things. I'm learning to be independent, and with my newfound freedom, comes great responsibility. Yet, it gives you many opportunities to try new things, and for me, that meant dying my hair from naturally blonde to dark brown out of a box in my dorm room. Although I don't necessarily recommend this process, change can always help you find some stronger independence in yourself. Here's a few things I've learned about hair from my dye experiences:

1. Box dye is horrible for your hair

Regardless of what the box says, it lies. Though bleach is even worse, hair dye found in drugstores are never healthy for your hair. If you are worried about the health of your hair post-dye, talk to your hairdresser or a professional beforehand to assure the best option for you.

2. You're not gonna recognize yourself

Unless you are going for minimal change, a big change in your appearance is going to be mentally shocking. The larger the difference you are making, the less you may recognize yourself in the mirror. Don’t worry though, the shock is only temporary, and I promise the look will grow onto you.

3. Dye your roots!!

Ladies, this one’s for you. Dye. Your. Roots! No one wants to see the color of your natural hair contrasting with your brand new hair color! Not only will it look better, but you will feel better with those freshened up roots.

4. You'll probably miss your old hair

Like everyone says, you probably will miss your pre-dye hair color. Although there may be some longing for the healthy pre-color strands that were on your head, you have something new to get used to!

5. But... Hair is temporary!

Don’t worry about the hair dye, hair is temporary! If you really hate it, there are wigs, and people specialized to help you create the perfect color. So don’t worry, you will end up in the right place!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
