Imagine yourself five years ago: You were probably just about to start high school or were already in your freshmen year. I bet you thought you were the coolest kid around rockin' those Hollister jeans and Abercrombie graphic tees. You constantly listened to Taylor Swift's song "Fifteen" in hopes that it would be your guiding light through high school.
Fast-forward to now: How ridiculous does all of this sound? I mean, I know I can personally go through my Freshman Year Facebook photo album and say, "What the hell was I even thinking?" in reference to the awful mirror pics and awful sense of wardrobe. If I could go back to that time, I would definitely love to give myself some advice and share what I know now.
1. Reputation DOES matter.
Yeah it might sound bad, but it is true. The way you carry yourself in your high school years can ultimately affect the way you are respected among your peers. Don't be that girl who shoves her luxury items in everyones face while also pretends to be friends with literally everyone and their dog but backstabs everyone in the process. (AKA don't be a Regina George.)
2. Your true friends are the ones who are with you until the end.
This one is pretty simple: The people who have stuck by your side for a good chunk of your high school experience are the ones that will always have your back in the future. Though I may be far from my high school best friends while I am at school, we still all decide to stay in on Thursday nights and group text during Grey's Anatomy while drowning our sorrows in Ben & Jerry's.
3. You will get your heart broken.
Getting dumped really sucks; take it from the girl who got dumped on Homecoming. But in your teenage years, it teaches you a lot of lessons. You learn to figure out things about yourself and your personality that you never realized before. You'll find your likes and dislikes which will help shape any kind of relationship you have in the future. The best part is that after five years you can look back on those relationships and laugh about them and realize how much better off you are now.
4. The things you are taught in high school are actually useful.
Studying for that stupid vocabulary test you have the next day may seem like a waste of an hour of your life, but it really isn't. The more you are tested on concepts like this, the more you are becoming a well-rounded person. Plus when you get to college, writing an interesting essay with colorful words doesn't seem as hard.
5. You never know what is going to be thrown at you.
Pop quizzes, bad hair days, stupid rumors and fights. These are some of many things that life could throw at you at anytime on any day. But looking at the big picture, does it really matter? Is anyone really going to remember what you wore on your first day of high school five years from now? Just think about that when you are having a crappy day.
