5 Class Rules That Crazy, Old, And Bad College Professors STILL Enforce In 2020

Syllabus week. We've all been there before.

It's usually more on the relaxed since you are not doing any actual work usually and just going over the teacher's rules and expectations.

Five of the rules that the teacher put in place, in particular, irk me.

1.That you are not allowed to go to the bathroom

After teachers say this they all make that joke about how of course it is an exception if you are about to throw up.

I think that people should be able to go to the bathroom whenever they see fit.

It is a lot easier to pay attention when you aren't holding your bladder and counting down the minute until you can get out. Some people will argue and say that these people should just pee before class. Well, sometimes it just doesn't work that way. You cannot control when you are going to pee.

What if I have my period? Am I supposed to just sit in my blood so that I do not "distract" others?

2. That you are not allowed to have your laptops out

A lot of people take notes on their laptops, so this seems a bit much.

I believe that it should be each student's choice if they want to go to class and mess around on their laptop. If they don't want to learn and pay attention than that is their choice. It is their/ their parent's money that they are wasting,

 3.  That you can not eat in class

If I am in class from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with no break, you bet that I am bringing in a snack to keep me from getting hungry.

I get that it can be distracting, but how can students focus if they are hungry?

We're sleep-deprived enough, don't leave us hungry too.

4.  Taking your cellphones during tests

Taking your cellphones is a bit much.

I get it ensures no one can cheat but as long as you see everyone putting their phones in their bags, then it's not an issue.

I do understand that this can be harder for a large class though to make sure no one cheats, but you still can depend on the honor code.

5.  Assigned seats

In college, this isn't as big of an issue. But in high school, I remember this being a super annoying rule.

It takes the fun out of the class if you cannot sit next to your friends and stuff.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
