In the past five years, a lot of shit has gone down. And by shit, I mean celebrity drama.
Let's recap, shall we?
Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr split. Looks like their son Flynn might find life on a pirate ship to be a bit more his style.
Robin Thicke and Paula Patton, Katy Perry and John Mayer, and Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose also found themselves on the list of divorces/breakups.
Now we have Ben Affleck, who could really use a disguise after being caught with the nanny, separating from Jennifer Garner.
That not all, folks...
Zayn Malik had to leave One Direction for a "normal life" but now wants to pursue a career in "real music," Justin Beiber exposed his behind to the world, and Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce, has accumulated a very impressive number of high heels within weeks.
The optimist in me hopes that we all remember the stars who brought so much talent to our televisions and joy to our lives.
We fell in love with Cory Monteith, we lived vicariously through Paul Walker, and who couldn't argue that Robin Williams had basically been another father to us all.
(If you haven't seen the video of him with a Gorilla, here you go. And if you have, well, watch it again.)
Following celebrity gossip may be a hobby, an occasional way of passing the time in the grocery line, or something you receive instant updates about on your phone. Regardless, there's something we all need to remember:
They're only human.
And...they're trying just as hard at this thing called "life" as the rest of us.
No matter how many times Jennifer Lawrence falls down, Britney Spears tries to reinvent herself, or Taylor Swift writes a song about an old fling, we all seem to think that celebrities are supposed to have it all together.
They don't.
Let's just agree that we wouldn't be able to do it much better.
We've all had our awkward phases, some worse than others. We've all had days when we just want to grab the paper in our at-home sweats with no makeup on in peace, and we've all needed a little TLC at times to make it to tomorrow. When it comes to the big stuff, we've all been there, too. Remember your worst breakup? Sure, it was bad. But at least it wasn't televised.
So the next time you hear about so-and-so doing this or that, remember, your neighbor probably did it, had it, or went through it, too.
